Half of my family is from Trinidad and Tobago and they weren’t on any c00n stuff either but a lot are. I’ve seen first hand time and time again from other Trini’s, Liberians, Nigerians, and etc. But once again the ADOS movement has nothing to do with anyone but African Americans so who cares about those other groups. It’s about African-Americans shifting from a race first philosophy to a culture first one and I think it’s totally necessary and needed. If someone is offended by that mission statement then rhey are most likely anti African American.
Understood. But I think you may be misunderstanding my point. If ADOS as a group had the power and/or numbers to make this move I wouldn’t think twice about it. It makes perfect sense. Your ancestors were slaves in America and you deserve what’s due to you. I’m an outsider and if I want reparations then my family needs to go to Britain and make a case.
My point is about strategy and ability. Sometimes how you accomplish something is just as important as why you’re doing it. It’s amazing how easily we recognize that this is a racist country, yet almost every attempt to even the playing field is something with a big black label on it. THAT DONT MAKE NO SENSE. Even white people didn’t make their discriminatory policies overt and obvious post Jim Crow.
This is where I think Obama got it right. In this country you have to help black people while people in a way where people think you’re not doing anything for them just because it doesn’t say BLACK on it. You want reparations or the like. Create a policy that says nothing about black people, but once it’s enforced, black people will overwhelmingly (as much to where it’s not too obvious) be the benefactors. They didn’t the same thing with things like Redlining and Mortgages loans, except in a discriminatory manner.
We gotta outsmart these people, but instead we want to put on a damn show. We want everybody to know that it’s payback. F that! At least use some slight of hand like our racist president.
