Slavery is already technically legal through the penal system. And given the tragectory we're heading in and continued unchecked corporate power I could definately see the complete erosion of worker rights in the not too far off future.

But slavery isn't what we should be immediately concerned about.....yet. If you value clean air, clean water, your privacy in the bedroom, access to contraceptives, and a host of other civil liberties there is no reason to be cavalier about the SCOTUS decision today.

The justices on the Supreme Court aren't just your run of the mill conservatives, they're theocrats who are now effecitively America's "high priests" and they want to mold America into their handmaiden tale fantasies. If you think that is hyperbole, do some research into many of their views.

I was listening to a stream today and the host made a point that resonated with me. Voting for Democrats is essentially delaying fascism. A far right autocracy is always one missed vote away and just one term of a Republican can do irrevocable damage.

At some point we're going to have to talk about dismantling the Republican party as an institution. Its is the most dangerous political institution in human history.

There have been plenty of dem candidates running on Merit, in just the last two elections and primaries we have had Stacey Abrams, Bernie Sanders and many others. Ironically, many of them running on merit dont get the fukking votes a lot of times though. So while people ask for merit, I don't believe them when they claim to value it. They still no show on election day.

Bernie didn't lose to Hillary in a close race, the voters showed up and it was overwhelmingly in her favor. I don't know where all these people are that just care so much for these values when many candidates can't win a race.

You're implying that their supposed "fear mongering" doesn't have merit. A coup was just attempted, a large number of the country still believes the 2020 elections weren't legit, the Supreme Court is occupied by religious zealots, and many Republican officials are explicitly calling for violence against their political opponents. If you don't see all this as "severe" then you have an issue with your ability to discern and make good judgements.

Yes, I agree the Democratic establishment should put up more inspiring candidates. But like it or not they're the only political instituion that can stave off right wing authoritarianism in this country. It is a sad fact of life. I don't like it. No one does.

If we want more inspiring candidates we have to totally remove these out of touch neoliberals from power. That means we all have to get politically active.
