Because although blacks have done well on the field, off the field has traditionally been a white male dominated area.

They see a brother saying "Yo, why shouldn't I get in on this"...and they are enacting new rules to stop it.

Black folks shoulda been recognized all the money being left on the table.

It's not just this rule...there seems to be a lot of fear over what Jay is trying to do. Most of the managers and agents in entertainment (GATEWAY types in movies, maybe not as important in sports) are white or jewish.

I feel like the glass ceiling is being purposefully raised, even if just a little.

I never said it was racist though..some folks are alluding to it. Never in my post did i make the allusion or the assumption to what youre saying.


Now that Jay-z is trying to become an agent, they wanna adopt this rule, whereas before, regardless of college education or not, all that was required was a certification.

Yes i know that there are many black agents, and they most likely do have degrees, but why the sudden change? A degree shouldnt matter.

Well from personal experience, you dont need to be "smart" to be an agent and college kids arent any "smarter" than non college kids anyway. They're usually better programmed to follow directions, and thats how most people think theyll get ahead in life.

You need to know how to work the system, and that goes for most occupations in life. Getting the license should be enough, while having the college education should be seen as a bonus.

And to the poster that said the nflpa guy was black. Some of our peoples most crucial setbacks have come from the hands of our own.
Some black people out here uncle tomming and just doing what their masters want. So when someone says "hes black and in a position of power, why would he do something negative to his own?", just look into who his/her boss is, how they generally treat or view people (especially black). Dont assume that because a black face is up there that they automatically should or will support black people. Often times those people are regarded as "safe" so that everyone else feels comfortable and can use the "bbbbut hes black! he cant be racist to his own kind", when in reality hes for the real people in power.

I'd be willing to bet half these teams owners wouldn't have an issue sending their cattle to real modern day slavery if they could continue to make billions off em.

But back to the original point. People in power hardly ever want to give it up. "Race" in numbers is power. Keep the ******s mentally enslaved, keep em killing each other over pennies(relatively speaking), keep em on drugs, keep them chasing the black american dream, but do not let them take over (dont ask me how) the business side. They can't do anything blatantly racist cuz this is 2013 and that shyt's illegal, so they have to reach and do shyt in a round about manner.

They've been letting any dimwit get certified to be an agent for years, and they've been called out for that, yet done nothing. Agents have been known to be scumbags, yet they've done nothing to weed them out either.

Now Jay-z comes along, and they feel the need to urgently tighten things up

Is it solely cuz he's black? Nah. They're worried about other Jay's coming through and using their popularity to get athletes then leading them into terrible contracts. But ask yaself this: If this were Matt Damon forging into this arena, do you really believe they enact this rule?

what happens if other jays actually have a college degree ?

today's age is drastically different from 20 years ago. you can get a bullshyt degree from online university in couple of weeks or even less, no sweat.

if anything I can see this becoming a problem where an athlete wants his family member or a friend [without a degree] managing him. this wont be a problem for people with money like jay-z.
