Because being an Agent used to only require certification. No different than an electrician or plumber. Now all of a sudden they have to have both? :childplease:

Uh, this is not something unique to the sports agency industry bruh. Requiring a degree now for positions that previously didn't is commonplace in the public and private sector nowadays due to increase skill specialization requirements and innovations in industry. It happened at my job. Non degree-having mechanics, line operators, lab techs, QA people etc. have been phased out and replaced by people with degrees.

Kim Miale, the agent who represents New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith on behalf of Jay-Z's Roc Nation, met with members of the NFL Players Association for about two hours on Wednesday to discuss her recruiting of Smith and whether she violated the NFLPA's "runner rule" in doing so, a person informed of the meeting told USA TODAY Sports.

However, in a late twist, Miale arrived at the meeting without attorney David Cornwell, a rival of NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith over the past few years.

Did Jay-Z violate NFLPA's agent rule?

So the day before said meeting, Robert Kraft is seen with Jay-Z at the 40/40 10 year anniversary. Cornwall is noticeably absent the next day at the NFLPA, RocNation meeting.. :leon:

Pure coincidence I am sure..

But it's the timing that's very suspect. Lets be clear, they are trying to inact this new rule not because Jay is black, but because he's black and influential. No one gave a rat's ass about Master P or any other black agent simply because they didn't pose a real threat.

These muffagas will not bother with you as long as niccas stay in their place. Problem is Jay has the resources, smarts and influence to become the top agent. Some of these agents might be submitting resumes to Roc Nation soon.

They are very scared.

It's not just this rule...there seems to be a lot of fear over what Jay is trying to do. Most of the managers and agents in entertainment (GATEWAY types in movies, maybe not as important in sports) are white or jewish.

That's the key muthafukkin word. FEAR. Jay is not only coming into the agent/management game with new players trying to carve his own niche in the industry, he's "STEALING" players from other agencies. They not gonna sit back and let some "hip hop ******" come take money off their plate. So they put little roadblocks like this. I fukkin love it.

See Jay (and black folk in general) is cool to them when its just rap and using him for "their" brand. It's a win-win. However...when Jay decides to make power moves like this, "he's out of his lane". Look, they only see us as entertainment. Run ****** run. Rap ****** rap. We're safe. We make the millions as athletes, but they make the billions in ownership.

When we boss up and get rights to our master recordings, become agents, own distribution companies, own team franchises, it becomes a threat to the establishment. They want us to stay the product, to play our position. We have the ability to cut them out of the equation if we realized the power we have. And they know it.

These guys who run sports are racist as fuk, lets be honest

the NBA dress code was created specifically for the young black male, they got tired of our fashion and wanted to put an end to it

The no dance rule in the NFL was created for blacks also.

REAL TALK THO, Jay Z could buy a degree from Yale if he wanted to

:russ: I was bout to say drop a nice chunk of change on a school they'll be glad to give you an honorary degree. They'll even give you a cap and gown and let you walk if you want. :heh:

They can't do anything blatantly racist cuz this is 2013 and that shyt's illegal, so they have to reach and do shyt in a round about manner.

They've been letting any dimwit get certified to be an agent for years, and they've been called out for that, yet done nothing. Agents have been known to be scumbags, yet they've done nothing to weed them out either.

Now Jay-z comes along, and they feel the need to urgently tighten things up :shaq2:

Is it solely cuz he's black? Nah. They're worried about other Jay's coming through and using their popularity to get athletes then leading them into terrible contracts. But ask yaself this: If this were Matt Damon forging into this arena, do you really believe they enact this rule?
I really don't think a ton of players would be lining up to be associated with Matt Damon

My brother waited tables one summer in OBX (Outer Banks, NC) and meet DeMaurice, they stuck up a conversation because they both were wearing uva hats......considering who his wife is......i'm not surprised by his anti Jay-Z stance.

One of my boys (black) is an agent

Yeah there's a lot of agents who are family friends of these players and rep them with no degrees

Nfl has no reason to give a shyt if an agent is licensed or not......they just don't wanna see black dudes eating unless they're on the field
