In fields where a degree is truly required the employer needs to know you have the capacity to do the work. What degree corresponds to being an agent? Is there a negotiation degree? Can I get a degree in Forestry and that is enough for the NFL to determine I can be a qualified agent?

Plus agents are employed by athletes. The athlete should be able to hire whoever he wants to represent them.

...And these were my first thoughts.

Did the players/player reps vote for this? Asking that, it's not wrong for them to have a college educated person handling their biz, but as noted they are choosing whom they want as agents...

so if you were an agent....you let Jay-Z steal your business with no fight? :why: a communication degree would make sense to have if you wanted one. I personally don't think you need a degree to be an agent....but if i was an agent I ain't losing clients to Jay-Z without a fight.

I hope you never bought anything from walmart....cause walmart does stuff to undercut small business all the time cause they work out deals behind the scenes and buy in bulk that can't be matched! Jay-Z like a small business trying to get into the game....and the established big boys will get at him 1st sign of competition.

These guys who run sports are racist as fuk, lets be honest

the NBA dress code was created specifically for the young black male, they got tired of our fashion and wanted to put an end to it

The no dance rule in the NFL was created for blacks also.

REAL TALK THO, Jay Z could buy a degree from Yale if he wanted to

No he couldn't.... :rudy:

The timing of it all exposes the racial undercurrent most of us clearly see while others simply refuse to.

If there wasn't a repeated history of the powers that be willingness to battle black people in general being independent of the white power structure the maybe id say this is a coincidence, but it isn't.

The NFL needs to spend more time doing thorough checks on who they allow to be team owners than worrying about things like this.

so you expect people to back down from Jay-Z being competition? :rudy:

this ain't a government job where everyone is working for a common goal ....you take the money out other agents pockets and put it in yours. THAT'S ALL.

If Jay Z "invented" there being competition between agents, then your point would make sense.

That competition existed long before Jay Z arrived. Why are YOU giving him so much status already that his mere presence somehow means everyone should fall back?

Like all things in life, those agents just have to work harder.

Seriously...that was a dumb retort.

Jay-Z is a popular rapper that is going to have a lot of reach especially with young people in general. He will pull a lot of big names with less effort because his status causes people to want to be associated with him.

I'm comparing Jay-Z to a up and coming Mom&Pop store that Walmart will put out of business by using behind the scene moves. The agents probably came together like Walmart and wanted to make sure Jay-Z and other entertainers stayed in their lane especially in the NFL.

Like I said don't think you don't need a degree....just the certs to handle business. However, Jay-Z is a threat to all agents because he can produce connections in the media and endorsements fairly easy as he is an entertainer himself.

agents ain't a white system....they are independent contractors that include black people.

AND?

It's obvious that you don't think much about the players ability to make choices beyond Jay Z believing they'd automatically capitulate to the wants if Jay.

Jay will certainly pull in a lot of names like other agents before him and after him. The NFL has the most players out of any sport. There are more than enough athletes in the pot to pick from, but the very fear that Jay will be the all eye seeing, supreme being of agents is rife with thinking all of these athletes are simply blinded by his presence as if they aren't qualified to find alternatives.

Check this, doe...

imagine if all athletes were serious about their ish and could handle their own finances/negotiations/endorsements/lives...

this is how dirk nowitzki does it. you have more control and no money out of pocket to agent.

issue is most athletes never learned how to wash their own laundry, much less manage/negotiate their own affairs. can't even sign their name properly. cats still marking an X for their signature like in the slave days. :snoop:

that's a very good point.

But Jay has easy access to entertainment doors because he has/had relationships with record labels, Budweiser, cool with Diddy and Ciroc, knows movie actors, cool with rebok etc. Connections that ya average agent does not have to put people into things outside of sports. Agents have to work harder to get in the same room in which dudes like Jay-Z already have a key.

Plus Jay has enough money to be taken seriously when it comes to investment strategies unlike the average agent.
