going for the legs on a tackle has always been a bytch move to me...
You can always tell who never played the game. That's how you're supposed tackle, a runner can't go anywhere without their legs. I'm not saying you dive and blow someone's knees out, but wrapping up the legs is the proper fundamental tackle

Yup. Coach always said if you went for his waist\legs you would bring him down the majority of the time.

You can already see players changing....when you watch pre-season and a guy catches a pass in traffic, if one guy is already trying to bring him down the other defenders don't come full force like they used to.

Pretty soon there's gonna be a penalty/rule of "well you didn't have to hit him that hard", regardless of whether you used your helmet, shoulder, whatever and regardless of where you hit him.

It's already that way somewhat, you can perform a perfect tackle but if the guys head snaps back or his arms flail, the ref is gonna call a penalty on you because it looks worse than it is. Essentially b/c "you hit him too hard"

nikkas gonna start floppin on the football field and over exaggerating contact to draw penalties. :heh:

It's either going to go two ways:

- NFL gets players to sign liability waivers where the player assumes all risk and cannot sue in the future
- NFL turns into two hand touch.

There's really no other options.

Yup, I've been saying this. There will be no tackle football in the future. It's inevitable.

It'll take time, but that's how they want it. They won't do it anytime soon b/c they'll lose all the current fans in one fell swoop.

But if they do it over a prolonged period of time, they can breed an entire new generation of football fan who only knows a "softer game", and they won't know any different other than old highlights, which the NFL can also control.

But there's no way those of us who grew up in the 90's, 00's are gonna a completely watered down game.

option 1 is where it will go. theres too much money involved to let the sport erode away to the point fans turn away from it, which is what will happen if it turns into 7 on 7 drills

:ohhh:

Yeah, it's the boiling frog metaphor. I'm 32, and forget about when I started watching the game back in the late 80s... the game from 10 years ago to now is totally different.

I think so too, but I'm not sure if that sort of thing would hold up in court.

I dont think option 1 holds b/c the bigger issue is the image of the game and the NFL.

You're never gonna take helmet to helmet or any helmet hits out of the game completely. Even if not purposely, they occur on accident. Knees to the helmet(Kolb), concussions are gonna always be apart of the game.

Up until recently, it was considered "manly or tough" to brag about old football injuries, or about how great you were in high school or college til you got hurt....but this new concussion thing(leading to suicides, dementia, etc) is a whole different animal.

Like I said, I could see the league over a period of years making the game softer, and that trickles down to college, highschool, midde school, pee wee until you have a much different game. Just the same way the league got MORE violent over the years, it can go backwards.

i dont know the numbers, but id bet the suicide/dementia rate for nfl athletes is on par with/or lower than the rate for the rest of the population. if the players dont care right now how their play will affect them later in life, which is what most of them say, then why the fukk does anyone else care? who am i to tell another person how they should feel about what they are putting their body through. if a guy signs a waiver saying hes ok with whatever health outcome comes along, then why does anyone else give a shyt about it? if the guy doesnt sign the waiver, tell him thanks see ya later find a real job, and someone else will sign the waiver and play. the only worry is how much the nfl loses in this current lawsuit. that is the real threat to the future of the game. its not player safety, thats a total facade the nfl is pushing through the media
