Why didn't nigeria just make their own identification cards?

The cost is probably the reason. MasterCard has the resources and the know-how to distribute the cards and create the infrastructure needed to use the cards. Hundreds of thousands of card readers will have to be placed in businesses and government offices. MasterCard will get its money back by charging fees to use the card for financial transactions.

In the US some states put child support on a debit card and the user is charged every time they access their money. If you pay your US taxes with a debit card you may be charge as much as $3.95. If you use a credit card to pay US taxes, the fee may be 2.35% of your tax bill.

The Honorable Minister Tariq Nasheed needs to get the MOTHER WHEEL to Nigeria as soon as possible.

Japan, but from the 989
I'm feeling some sort of way about this. Maybe they don't realize it but a credit card company's logo is on your NATIONAL ID Card.......So, Mastercard has some type of deal with Nigeria?

Edit
Read earlier comments. I get it, but I still don't like it because I feel like Mastercard is going to pull some evil shyt sooner or later.

It makes sense that your Citizens ID would contain your money, voter status and health info, this would greatly reduce fraud and ID theft. But it does have its drawbacks. They're some military bases in which MPs do carry these features on their identification.

This is extremely disturbing.

The card will contain:
-Photograph, name, age, and unique ID number
-Ten fingerprints and iris scan

Planned uses:
-Stored-value card - for example to receive wages
-ATM card
-Debit card
-Voter ID
-To receive social benefits, pension
-Tax payment
-Driver's license
-Health insurance

There will probably be fees to access your own money. The government will be able to monitor your purchases and any disease/health condition you might have. If stopped by the police you will have to hand over all info on your life.

The countdown to Apple’s event on September 9, where it will almost certainly announce the next iPhones, has started — and rumors are increasingly piling up.

The latest is that Apple will be announcing a partnership with payment facilitators including Visa and MasterCard, as it plans to turn the new iPhone into a mobile wallet, Bloomberg reports. Re/code separately reports that Apple has also reached an agreement with American Express.

The new iPhone is said to introduce an easier mobile payment process with the inclusion of a near-field communication (NFC) chip. Along with the fingerprint reader which debuted on the iPhone 5s, this could mean that users can pay for items in a store with the touch of a finger, Bloomberg says.

Re/code reports that customers will simply present their phones at the checkout counters of partner retailers to pay for their purchases, though it isn’t clear yet which retailers have reached an agreement with Apple.

Reports suggest the next iPhone will come in two sizes. One model will have a 4.7-inch display, while another sports a 5.5-inch version. We know it will run iOS 8, Apple’s refreshed mobile OS, and it’s likely to sport a different look.
