Nintendo claims the new Zelda is "open-world". If so...

I thought Zelda was always open world.:dwillhuh:

There's never been separate levels to complete

Not really, you still had to do dungeon in order and a lot of areas would be closed off until you get a certain item(s). The only real open word Zelda games were The OG Zelda on NES and A Link Between Worlds.

Well thats what makes a Zelda game Zelda. Are they removing that stuff from the game?

This is 100% false. "Ocarina of Time" wasn't open world? "Majora's Mask"? "Twilight Princess"? "Windwaker"?

Saying these games ain't open world because the entire world wasn't opened up until you got an item or finished a task is like saying "GTA" ain't open world, for the same reasons:

Well my mistake then, I had figured that the new Zelda would be more of a sandbox type open world when there would be no restrictions.

There's still restrictions in "GTA", which is the prototype for sand box games. That's what I'm saying though....open world don't mean the entire game's content is available to you from the start. You still have to progress through the story.

I don't think it's possible for a game to have an in-depth story and be completely open world/sand box.

Ok then with all the open world/sandbox talk out of the way, we should discuss the most important matter.

A matter that should be addressed once and for all:

Do you think this game will finally have a harem?:lupe:

I don't consider it "open world" when there really isn't an option but to do the next specific main questline or one or two side quests. Skyward Sword was hardly open-world.

Either way, if they've always been considered "open-world", why do these games always get a pass for having so little overworld content?

I don't mind open world, just having to go from one end to the other on some bs by just walking. Skyward sword did that a few times where you're going for like miles to get one thing and bringing it all the way back. I should beat that game tho. I was at the final battle.

They explained in the Digital Event that they didn't consider previous Zelda games to be open world because it was essentially just a large hub with linear paths leading to different separate levels (dungeons). The new Zelda is supposed to make the world as a whole more immersive.
