they did with nes and snes, what are you talking about
It's 2017 are you really bringing up shyt from the late 80s and early 90s like it's still relevant to what's going on now? For at least 20 years Nintendo has done whatever they want industry be damned and even before they they were doing what they wanted but due to lack of competition they set the industry standard with their own actions

Nintendo has never really complied with the way others do stuff.

The Original Rec Room Gang
I was thinking, Nintendo would be insane to charge people to play Mario kart on switch when the same game is FREE on the wiiU, so I headed over to the Nintendo website and found some interesting wording

Available in March (Free trial)
Online Play on Nintendo Switch

You’ll be able to play compatible co-op and competitive games online by signing in with your Nintendo Account. Online play will be free for Nintendo Account holders until our paid online service launches in fall 2017.

After the free-trial period, most games will require a paid online service subscription from Nintendo in order to play online.

This service is only for Nintendo Switch. It does not affect Wii U or Nintendo 3DS systems or online play.

Give an example of Nintendo complying with an industry standard practice verbatim without doing their own thing.

Nintendo has always done its own thing. That's why they're in the position they're in presently because of non-conformance to industry standards.

Except they were doing their own thing there too. The difference was back then Nintendo was the industry. They set the standard. Outside of the Sega Genesis what real competitor did they have back then? The Genesis was outsold by almost 20 million units. They weren't really a problem.

If you're the only real player in the game you can do whatever you want and it's industry standard practice by default.
