I love it :whew:

Real talk if other rappers start adapting Nips blueprint we can take down alot of these barriers that block artists like Nip from the public. The internet bout to shut down alot of industries in music.

And I personally love it :noah: , GET THESE VULTURES THE fukk OUTTA HERE :camby:

But will that lead to people buying the music? Marketing is a big piece of it. Even his anti-establishment hustle is a marketing plan.

shyt the nikka just made 100,000 off a mixtape a week ago :manny: . Like I have said in a thread a while back predicitng the future of hip hop.

If High level new up and coming artists start working completely independent of the industry and some how jus worry about their cult core following they will be easily able to sustain themselves.

shyt imagine if The Weeknd did something like this. Im pretty sure he would of been able to make 500,000 easily.

Great interview and god damn if that isn't the truth. This whole you gotta be present 24/7/365 for four years straight to be deemed "hot" or get validated as an artist is some corny Internet, ADD shyt. People need to take time between albums (loving that Adele is doing this, bey finally is doing it, etc) to live life.

:usure: he sold all 1k of those $100 albums? I'm definitely not knocking his hustle.

As far as the Weeknd goes, I think his album is my favorite of the year so far. Those major labels = bigger tour venues = more money. We kinda seem to ignore this part of being signed. Either way is a financial risk. Tech9 has to tour 364 days a year to make a few mill. Someone on a major might make that in less than 100 tour dates.

You were planning to drop Victory Lap first, right? So now that’s gonna be an album instead?

Yeah. I’ma tell you about that. I was in negotiations with a few major labels and we were almost close to a deal. So I started promoting Victory Lap as a mixtape before my album, because I was gonna drop Victory Lap, announce my deal, and go into the album; but I realized that the structure of these companies aren’t built to give me any type of ownership. They wanna give you a check. I told them keep the check, give me an asset and just market and distribute my shyt. I don’t need a check. They wanted to give me all this money up front but I’m like, keep the money. Let me be involved as a partner. And nikkas couldn’t do that. And it’s not because the people at the label didn’t want to help me. It’s because the corporate structure of their companies would not allow ownership. And I’m offended by that. I called an audible and I withstood social pressure. I believed in my heart that I would be less of a man to not stand up for what I believed in. I felt like it was racist. Like, I don’t deserve some shyt I just built by myself? You want to give me some money? Oh, because you don’t think I know what the asset is? You think I don’t understand where the real value is? Well I’m offended by that and my goal changed. I didn’t do a press release or tell nobody about it. I just let my demonstration speak. And now they’ve seen the first part of it with the Crenshaw shyt. That’s just a small piece of what my plan is.

:salute:
