It hurts when a black man talks like a intellectual and will still push you pasty pale for head back don't it?"who is an editor to have an opinion on a street nikka? Bottom line. Those editors don’t live this life. They don’t go through the struggle. I’m from the Rolling 60's my nikka."
see this's what I don't like about these so-called street rappers, just because you lived the life, it doesn't make you better (or worse) rapper. You shouldn't get a special treatment because you from the rolling 60s. At the end of the day, the only reason I heard about you is because you make rap records.
But let's see how many Booth posters cosign this yet be the main ones clowning rappers when an album "flops"

this is no different than any "purist" argument that goes on in all types of music.
the talent hates the critics and say critics dont matter etc...
nothing to see here.
Is 100% cac meant to be a diss? lol you guys make me laugh
so the true culture of hiphop = gang banging?

I rock with Nipsey's honesty in the interview, and he really made a lot of great points about the industry in general. Labels definitely prey on artists and take advantage of them without really contributing to the artists or their neighborhoods that fuel the music. I salute him for having conviction about the value of his music and how he wants to release it.
That said, he focused a lot on the old story for him to claim he didn't take it personally. I can understand the idea that the expectation shouldn't be to drop something new every six months; that's fine. But he didn't have an issue when Complex was supporting his work early on. Complex has their BS lists to pay bills, but they actually do support newer artists, and they do actually publish insightful/opinionated stories about the culture. Their ATLiens/Vol. 2: Hard Knock Life anniversary story was dope, their story about how Mase has influenced newer artists and who artists like Mase himself derive from was dope (referenced Spoonie Gee), their story about the history of Detroit hip-hop was dope. And those are all just stories I can think of off top. Their insightful stories don't get as much traffic because they're more in-depth and take longer to read; and those same reasons are why they aren't as common as the others. More in-depth stories take a lot longer time to do, so they can't be done as easily as a short blog post. But Complex definitely gives the resources to those type of stories.
They give someone props, "Shout out to Complex for the love!" But let them post a story that actually has a negative opinion, "They don't love hip-hop."
If people want more genuine content on sites like Complex, they need to actually support it.
I hate the click-through pages tooIf they want us to support they can start with getting rid of all those click through pages.
Are you white? Do you work for them?
but otherwise, I don't really have an issue with them. They post stuff I don't care for, and they post stuff I like too. That's the case for just about every site I rock with anyway. I give them props though because they still do original, in-depth content, and they support newer artists - they don't just rely on the "post the same songs everyone posts" formula. If they want us to support they can start with all those click through pages.

No, I'm not white. I'm a freelance writer, and that's one of the publications I've written for. I'm not on staff though. And you won't see me defending every magazine I contribute to either.

How much do they pay?![]()
