That kind of makes sense. I wish I still had my bootlegg from high school, because my memory is kind of hazy. But I can say for sure that "Nas Is Like," "Life We Chose," "NYSOM Pt. 2" and "Favor 4 a Favor" wasn't on my version.

EDIT: "Wanna Play Rough," "Blaze a 50," "Project Window," and "Small World" were definitely on there.
I must have had the same version as you because Nas Is Like, etc definitely wasn't on mine either.

Can't wait to get home and confirm this shyt, the songs are about 3 different topics I thought, what's the connection? :ohhh:

Undying love he commits suicide after accidentally jurdering his cheating girlfriend

Amongst Kings he debates God on his earthly sins and pleads with God to give him another chance on earth. God sends him back reincarnated as the prophet Nastradamus

Fetus he is reborn and narrates his new life and circumstances through his new mother's womb

If you think about Sequencing and listen to the lyrics. This probably should of been the first 3 songs of "I am".

1. Fetus
2. Poppa Was a Playa
3. NY State of Mind II

While that makes sense thematically I love the idea of NY State of Mind II coming after Fetus. The way Fetus ends just feels like it needs to be followed up by a BANGER. Like ok I'm born, shyt bout to pop off...and then that NY State of Mind II beat drops and it's on..
:wow:

Both Fetus and Poppa Was a Playa are kinda mellow tracks, I wouldn't start an album like that (obviously both are dope tracks tho). I'd put Poppa Was a Playa later on the album, like Nas is reminiscing back on his past. Doesn't have to be super chronological, it could be like GKMC where the story isn't strict beginning/middle/end.

Wherever nikkas need to be told on
This is why I never bought the "Nas fell off" narrative. That ain't never happen. That mafukka has always had heat. Only issue he's had was around his decisions of which songs did and didn't make the album. Even still, my man found redemption for I Am... and Nastradamus with Lost Tapes.

Wait, wait, wait; wasn't it supposed to be I Am Nastrudamus (Double Album)

Sound like (from what ya'll posting) Nasatrdamus only came after I Am...(OG) was canned

I remember watching this and immediately just wishing I could unlearn that information. So much BULLshyt happens in the industry that robs us of hearing potentially classic albums and songs man it's just ridiculous.

I would have LOVED to have heard that Little Brother album and concept Circa 2006-07 right when all three of them were really coming into their creative primes. Big Pooh had advanced so well with the bars (he was NEVER that far behind Phonte lyrically as people want to believe) Phonte was just perfecting the MC/singing format and 9th's beats were really maturing well. shyt would've been audio heaven:mjcry:

I also want to say fukk Sony for making Nas scrap his triple album concept for Streets Disciple. fukk Atlantic for making Lupe scrap his triple disc LUPend album and forcing him to drop Lasers. fukk Atlantic for sabotaging Saigon's career and not allowing him to release his debut until five years later. fukk Def Jam for doing Ghostface dirty and not promoting him properly after the success of Fishscale. fukk Jive records for not allowing Big Boi to drop Sir Lucious Left Foot with the Andre 3000 features. fukk Cash Money for holding Lil Wayne hostage (I'm not even a fan of Wayne, but Birdman is a fukking disgraceful pedophile) and most importantly fukk Def Jam for not letting Nas drop Lost Tapes 2 when and how he wanted. You guys know that we would've had LT2 FIVE YEARS AGO if DJ hadn't been p*ssyfooting around

To me; I hated Getback and Leftback for what they represented--the end.

Looking back, they're decent to good records (:beli: One 9th beat on GB).

The group was able to end.

I just watched two Pooh interviews. Dude was 21 when Listening dropped--they had they're time. I'm loving Foreign Exchange. I never got into Pooh's solo stuff (Sleepers is ill). And Him and Phonte have something between them.

Pooh straight up said; he and 9th good, 9th and Tay good...he hasn't talked to Phonte in 4 years.

I don't want to timestamp it

It's a good interview to watch in full

fukk Jive records for not allowing Big Boi to drop Sir Lucious Left Foot with the Andre 3000 features.

Scrapping an album or pushing it back after it leaks in hindsight was dumb as hell. Especially pre-internet. Like 1% of the fans actually hear leaks. If people say its trash, sure go back and change it but if people fukk with it, just hurry up and release it...
No it wasn't. It was a different time back then. If it leaked we didn't listen on YouTube. We consumed the music differently back then. Leaks were heavily bootlegged and then hurt your sales. No need to buy from Blockbuster Music when Pookie the hustler got it and you get it before it comes out. So yes, changing up the album did make sense.

Let's stay focused here lol

If I was trying to make a TIDAL playlist of the I Am/Lost Tapes/Nastradamus era, what would it look like?

Fetus
Poppa Was a Player
NYSOM 2
Life We Chose
Small World
Hate Me Now
Nas is Like
Blaze a 50
Drunk By Myself
Undying Love

Add on brehs... I was going thru this thread and trying to put it in an order that made sense into a Tidal playlist....

Edit: made a new thread if anyone was interested
