No cashiers: Kroger location converts to entirely self-checkout

Went to one in summer of 2017 in St. Augustine. Kroger used to be my favorite, but when I go to other Midwest based grocery stores, I realized they have brands/products Krogers don't carry. Jewel, Hy-Vee and Schnucks are the best up here to me

There used to be Schnucks here in Memphis but I think Kroger bought them out.

I prefer it when im picking up a few things. if i got a full cart, i'd like a cashier to ring it up quickly and bag my shyt.
self checkout is basically a 10 items or less express lane to me

Back when they first introduced the self checkout in my area in like 08, I thought I was slick. Sliding the big bag of pistachios across the barcode reader and make sure that barcode don’t get read . Had a worker come up to me as I was finishing talking about”sir I don’t think you scanned those pistachios” I can’t find that fantasia smiley but that’s how she was looking. I haven’t tried to finesse the system since

I almost never use self-checkout anymore, and would avoid any establishment that depends solely on self checkout. The risk of being falsely accused of shoplifting is just too high. The supermarket I've used for the past 15 years once had a worker checking the self checkout video feed over and over when the self checkout machine refused the bar code on an item I was trying to buy. Like who the fuq uses their membership card to shoplift?

More revenue by getting rid of a bunch of employees is better.

According to the grocery chain, the self-checkout areas look a lot like a standard checkout lane but without a person working as the cashier.

Publix buying up every corner store here to keep Kroger from popping up.

We got 2 Publix on the same corner. 5 within a fukking square block

Publix being private has its advantages with the biggest being that they have profit sharing with their employees. The employees are the ones who can invest in the company so no need to have outside shareholders who you have to prioritize over everything.
