crazy that 93 was the last time it happened. i had to look and rap was stuck in 2nd place because of whitney and janet and some more rnb. the songs at the top of the charts back then was legit classic rap and rnb. rap and rnb aint making classics no more.

imma be a hater and blame drake because he was at the top and none of his shyt is classic but everybody copied him and now we dont have people making shyt that would be considered classics and deserving of the 1 spot.

ps: muthafukk billboard and tha editor...
Ironically ‘93 was a golden year in hiphop ..but these nikkas on here would have been complaining about whether DoggyStyle was reeeeealllly all that good since it didn’t have a #1 top 100 billboard record on it :mjlol:these are our “Rap fans”

Irrelevant stat given the lack of major releases. Drake decided to drop an album late last year instead of this year. If he had dropped this year we'd be having a different conversation.

The biggest names dropped last year. The remaining big names, like Cole, haven't dropped this year yet. Given that the charts are still full of rap music I see no reason to harp on this.
The post below was like the 10th post in the thread…only got like 3 daps…muhfukkas pretended they ain’t see it and ignored it so they could collectively get 100+ posts of intellectually dishonest concern trolling off :russ:

Despite hip-hop's individual struggles to hit No. 1 on either chart, the genre's overall dominance from a sales perspective remains steadfast, with an increase of 6.3 percent in units moved, compared to 2022.

The music industry is promoting Afro Beats which has a greater global reach and revenue $tream
Burna Boy has sold out venues in the UK-EU, all over the Motherland, The Apollo Theater in (Harlem) and recently Miami Marlins baseball stadium.
I just saw the crowd in Paris France on his IG.

There is a flood of bad and low effort music on the market.

What is flooding the market?

From the google bot:

Flooding the market is an excess amount of inventory for sale causing an undesired drop in price for the product that can, in extreme cases, make the price go negative or make the products impossible to sell at any price. Businesses take measures to avoid that effect.

Case closed.

What happened to Rock is slowly happening to Rap. You are seeing the beginning of Rap no longer being the dominant genre in music. :francis:

TBH I’d rather have it that way so not everyone and their dog is trying to be a rapper and producer. Just like when rock was the biggest genre I bet people were getting sick of EVERYONE being “in a band” and thinking they had next.

Ok, these guys are still stars of a generation who can’t put up big numbers. Drake, Kendrick, coke, future, wiz, even big Sean did not have this problem. And no one, it’s why I said the vets who dropped last year are the only ones who can grab those #1’s again. This new class aint getting it done, they don’t have the broad appeal needed
Rap is going to fall off soon if the new artist don’t start producing quality music.

Most rappers are ass and they're flooding the industry with ass. I don't wanna listen to the low effort bullshyt that's being dropped by these artists, if I don't got my Spotify going in the car I'd rather drive in silence. This isn't no old head, music was better in the 90's ass statement either, I was enjoying rap up until a few years ago. Now though...I'll listen to Afrobeats before I listen to rap.

High key R&B is cooked too but we can leave that for a different thread.
