I'm more impressed that y'all are arguing the "this is the beginning of the end" angle from 15 years ago....than the lack of posters putting links to bum ass rappers nobody wants to listen to as examples of "hip hop we should be listening to"
Don't sneak diss me

Stand on it. Only reason you can't enjoy the new "bum ass rappers" is because they aren't the rappers you grew up on. Same ones your parents called "bum ass rappers"

This is why shyt will never change
:unimpressed:

ICECOLDBISHOP is someone Ice Cube would cosign. And that still wouldn't be enough for yall

Not surprised, there are no new super stars in rap.

I think they been trying to make one of these younger dudes pop and crossover. I thought it was going to be da baby but he got stale and sabotaged himself. Lil baby seems like a star but something seems missing and now they trying Dirk with the jcole record.

When all the new younger talent keep ending up dying or locked up, its kind of hard to gain traction.

Theres a reason the big 3 ended up the big 3 in the early 2010’s, because they ain’t in that shyt

Yup, pop smoke definitely fits that bill he made young music but it was something that still caught my ear as well. That's just tip of the iceberg with XXXTentacion, Juice WRLD, etc; and others that passed unexpectedly.

1. too many artist
2. Lack of creativity
3. Cons of Social media/streaming

Music is in a bad place right now. Mainstream wise it’s been going downhill dramatically the last few years. Too many artist, no one standing out.

I’m 27 so don’t call me flabby. Albums don’t hit the same these days. I feel like too many artist focus on making “bangers” instead of cohesive projects. The bar for being an artist has never been lower. Now a days it’s too easy become a rapper.

I’m sick and tired of turning on a song hearing about someone sliding on oops or generic hood shyt. That’s 95% of the genre and it’s resulted into soulless microwave music.

basically what people have said about the current rap scene in all these threads

today's stars aint as big as the past
potential stars died
afrobeats and other genres are growing
people are tired of dead ass trap/drill and are looking to dance - the move to danceable songs should help sales

There are a number of factors. Biggest one might be fatigue from everything sounding the same.

Also modern rap artists just don't have personas that are interesting. What the fukk are these new nikkas even talking about these days. If you gonna talk about nothing at least put some effort into your rhymes man.

Weakest hiphop era of all time.
