Devils advocate here, but I don't think government entities can do free/unpaid appearances. I think it crosses the line of looking like a state takeover, so it's a mandatory that they pay market price for rendering services of any kind. So yes, while they paid the Falcons 850k, that is technically the private market's fair market value of hosting a ceremony of that size/length.

That doesn't mean the NFL isn't taking advantage of the Iraq War, Afghanistan War, and Islamophobia, but it should be pointed out in case people start complaining about the government's role in this.

Dont offer in the first place then. Leave it to the TV networks and radio to advertise for the military

They cant. Military likeliness is controlled by the government. I'm sure the advertising campaign is a recruitment edge, so that's why they're willing to offer. Makes sense though right? Look at all these unwavering patriots mad about ppl taking a knee. An nfl game/the nfl culture is a perfect outlet to recruit for the military.

I think this is made up tbh. What's the source? Teams were usually out there for the anthem if memory serves.

NFL teams being on the field for anthem is a relatively new practice
NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed this morning the practice began in 2009, adding, "As you know, the NFL has a long tradition of patriotism. Players are encouraged but not required to stand for the anthem.

And Stephen A had it fact checked by ESPN too

More context from last November if you still can't see it: Report: At least 50 teams were paid by Department of Defense for patriotic displays
