facts = :cape:?

:dahell:

It's :cape: cause you're in here acting like you don't know what the term "standard practice" means. You're cherry picking super bowls, championship games and a few special events (the military probably paid the jags to fly over that game too leading to league wide agreement the next year:skip:) in an effort to deny what the NFL's own spokesman is telling you is fact.

Hilariously predictable :laff:

So Jaguars games dont count? What are the parameters of this argument if video evidence doesnt count/semantics?

Dude, you're like 40 years old, you know what the term "standard practice" means. Go play dumb with someone else.

A quick youtube check and you'll see plenty of pre 2009 players out there for the anthem. It's nothing new and Stephen A is a moron.
Before 2009 it was optional for teams, which is why they usually reserved it for special occasions. If a team wanted to do it randomly then they had to set it up themselves.

You do realize that arguing semantics also constitutes :cape:, right?

There is a reason why the original article went from

NO NFL PLAYER STOOD FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM UNTIL 2009—BEFORE THEN, THE PLAYERS STAYED IN THE LOCKER ROOM AS THE ANTHEM PLAYED. NFL TEAMS GOT PATRIOTIC IN RECENT YEARS BECAUSE IT WAS GOOD FOR BUSINESS. A 2015 CONGRESSIONAL REPORT REVEALED THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE HAD PAID $5.4 MILLION TO NFL TEAMS BETWEEN 2011 AND 2014 TO STAGE ON-FIELD PATRIOTIC CEREMONIES; THE NATIONAL GUARD SHELLED OUT $6.7 MILLION FOR SIMILAR DISPLAYS BETWEEN 2013 AND 2015.

to
It wasn’t typical for NFL players to stand for the national anthem until 2009—before then, it was customary for players to stay in the locker room as the anthem played.* A 2015 congressional report revealed that the Department of Defense had paid $5.4 million to NFL teams between 2011 and 2014 to stage on-field patriotic ceremonies; the National Guard shelled out $6.7 million for similar displays between 2013 and 2015.

with a footnote reading:

*Correction, Sept. 14, 2016: This story originally misstated that no NFL player stood for the national anthem until 2009. While it wasn’t customary to stand for the anthem prior to 2009, some teams and players did.

because there is a huge difference.

Not sure why you quoted me.

@Trip claimed teams being out there and standing for the national anthem was usually done and responded to an article where the NFL's official spokesperson confirmred that it wasn't standard practice by cherry picking examples where they were out there as if that proved that it was a standard practice. He was called out for caping, so then he came back harping on the "no team" statement. The fact that it was done sometimes doesn't change the point of the thread.

Nah.
The "no teams" statement is definitely the most important part of the thread. It wasn't standard practice for the whole league, but if you say something never happened and somebody can show even one example disproving your point, you fail. He was asked to give examples, and multiple were given.

Even the original article where the "no teams" quote came from had to be edited to fit that fact in. Because that's important.

Stephen A specifically said "no team" on the video too. This is a dumb argument both ways, but it just was puzzling that someone was even pushing that when I had been to plenty of games pre 09 where teams were out for the anthem.

$600 Billion budget for the Department of Defense.

More than the next 7 countries, combined.

Throwing around $10 Million around to sports teams. :smh:
