I think AI changed the game, so they are trying to go with a new console that will utilize and cater to the new tech leap. unreal engine is going to be obsolete in a year.shouldnt sony be focusing on the games right now???its too early for another console...

The Switch 2 cost almost $500 right now. The PS5 Pro is $700. There is no way a PS6 doesn't launch at at least $700 if not far more because a PS6 won't come out and cost less than a PS5 Pro will be selling at. It's unlikely to be priced even the same as one.2029 would not be surprising. $500 without a disc drive or possibly $600 without a disc drive, though the ps3 disaster will remind Sony to price at the former.
This reasoning of the ps6 being $700 or beyond that without a disc drive because the ps5 pro is $700 is unreasonable because Sony wants to sell the same as or surpass the ps5 and a $700 console will not do that, so I see Sony trying to wait until production costs go down and this tariff disaster stops before releasing the ps6 which would be after 2028 to prevent releasing a ps6 that is too expensive. The ps5 pro is a niche system and will be discontinued some time before or after the release of the ps6 the same way the previous pro console was discontinued some time after the release of the ps5
Assuming dev kits being given next year is true, I expect some ps6 only exclusives along with cross gen exclusives as soon as 2029. I expect a greater amount of ps6 only exclusives compared to cross gen ps6 exclusives from the ps studios compared to this gen because of ambition for the games and not wanting to spend 10 to 15 years working on 2 or 3 games of a franchise and wasting 5 to 10 years of those years on a cross gen game unless the game already started development on the ps5 by the time the ps6 dev kits are received.
This was addressed in the post already. The ps5 pro will be discontinued before or shortly after the ps6 releases the same way the previous pro was discontinued shortly after the release of the ps5. Sony are not going to sell the same as or surpass the ps5 at $700 or beyond that. The ps6 will probably be sold without a disc drive and a stand. The price could possibly be $600 without a disc drive and stand yet Sony will want to avoid another ps3 disaster. This is why 2029 or beyond would be beneficial because of production costs going down and the tariff disaster being avoided. The Switch 2 cost almost $500 right now. The PS5 Pro is $700. The PS5 official price has yet to go down in about year 5. I doubt the Pro will have a price drop at all. Might even go up as the regular 5 has in places.
You think they're gonna drop the price several hundred dollars on a PS5 Pro right before a PS6 comes out? Just like Nintendo dropped the price of the Switch before the Switch 2 released right? This was addressed in the post already. Sony wants to sell the same or beyond what the ps5 sold within the same amount of time and that won't happen at $700 or beyond. The ps3 nearly tanked their business due to being $600 as a premium console. The ps5 pro will be discontinued before or shortly after the ps6 releases. Suppose there are still ps5 pros available before or after the ps6 releases, Sony will cut the price to get rid of the remaining ps5 pro units as the ps5 pro already received a temporary $50 discount during a sale earlier this year. The amount discounted will depend on the price of the ps6, which I don't see exceeding $600 without a disc drive and stand. $500 would be the safest way to repeat ps5 sales or sell better within the same amount of time. You think they're gonna drop the price several hundred dollars on a PS5 Pro right before a PS6 comes out? If anything they may try to dry up the supply of the PS5 Pro by ceasing manufacturing before the PS6 is released but I doubt they are dropping the price. We don't live in that environment where stuff like that happens on home consoles anymore.
What's most likely to happen is the PS6 is released as a super premium device at an extreme price and we get 2 years minimum of cross generation titles. Like the PS5 Pro before it the people that want the highest spec device buy that and everybody else is still on PS5.
I guess you just have confidence they'll get destroyed on the margins and take huge losses on selling the PS6. I don't. I feel like their answer is to further extend the PS5 generation.Sony wants to sell the same or beyond what the ps5 sold within the same amount of time and that won't happen at $700 or beyond. Though $600 could occur and would not be surprising, as stated before Sony will probably try to avoid $600 because of what occurred with the ps3. Almost all customers will buy a ps5 or keep their ps5 or ps5 pro to play a cross gen game instead of paying $700 or beyond for a ps6 while a niche base will buy the ps6. This will be opposite of almost all sales being on the ps5 for cross gen games this gen. A big name ps6 game exclusive to the system would still struggle to sell a $700 or beyond ps6. $600 would still be risky with the possibility of the same scenario occurring yet that's better than $700 or beyond. This is why 2029 or beyond seems reasonable due to production costs going down as the components get cheaper as time goes and avoiding tariffs.
Should be 2032 tbh
The ps3 was able to end at #2 because of price cuts and exclusives and would have not had the price remained at $600 as well as the 360 switching to a casual gamer approach and going through droughts towards the end of that generation. Search the profits of the ps3 compared to the other ps generations and the way that system affected Sony. The dreamcast released before the ps2 and Sony was able to take Sega out the console game. That wouldn't have occurred with a ps2 that cost $600. What occurred with the ps3 was about the price point, drought of exclusives on ps3, games running better on the 360, exclusives and timed exclusives on the 360, and damaged reputation at the beginning. The ps3 nearly took Sony under until Sony dropped the price and started building back their reputation with timely exclusives.I guess you just have confidence they'll get destroyed on the margins and take huge losses on selling the PS6. 4 years into the PS5's life half of all PlayStation gamers were sill on a PS4.

Half of All PlayStation Gamers Are Yet to Upgrade to PS5, Sony Stats Reveal - IGN
With the PS5 entering the second half of its life, figures from Sony indicate around half of all current PlayStation gamers are yet to upgrade to current gen.www.ign.com
The real reason the PS3 had issues wasn't because of the $600 price as it finished #2. It was because the Xbox 360 launch a year first and was somewhat competent most of it's life. They took a chunk of Sony's audience that round. That Microsoft doesn't exist anymore. They aren't really a competent legitimate competitor. Nintendo does it's own thing. There's no reason an $700-800 PS6 can't launch for the ultra high end enthusiast market and exist alongside the PS5 in it's late stage life. Over time as the PS5 winds down they can adjust price on the PS6 and bring it into mainstream.
They really have no worry about a rival stealing their audience. Nobody is looking to be that anymore. I mean you don't honestly think the PS3 that sold almost 90 million units doesn't sell in line with the PS4 115 million or so if the Xbox 360 doesn't steal market share right?
