shyt, no rush. I only just got the PS5 Pro the other day anyway. I won't be getting the next generation til probably a few years after its initial release when they finally have the slim/pro version of THAT like I always do.

I was trying to be quick with my response. My point was that the difference between the PS4 and PS5 wasn't large enough from my experience. So, I'm not expecting the jump to the next generation gaming system to be large enough by 2029 to create a large enough demand and I don't think I'm alone in my thinking (but you never know).
Most probably would agree. Two big technologies aren't possible on the ps5 and series X without noticeable performance drop: Path tracing and full raytracing. You can get games with Ray tracing and a smaller version of path tracing but you're not going to get both at 4k and anything above 20fps on a ps5 or series X. There's no favorable comparison if you compare the console version of Indiana jones or doom dark ages and the PC versions of those games running on a 12 or 16gb gpu.

The cost of computing relative to the benefit in general has gone down. If you go out right now and buy a 16gb video card, you might expect that it would run all games maxed out at 60-120fps on 4k internal resolution. You would think "well for the cost equivalent of 2 consoles combined, im going to get great performance from this thing" and you'd be wrong.

The reality is that we are at a point of diminished returns. It's now upscaling software that is holding things up. A game's performance can change massively with DLSS or frame generation. Sony and MS goal should be to focus on affordability. Cutting the cost of the existing hardware will cause a huge spike in sales. Most people can't see an obvious difference between a ps4 game and a ps5 game right away and theres been a huge lack of exclusive games anyway. If the hardware goes down in price and software goes up in availability, that's good for everyone. A new console feels way too soon and wouldn't give that much of a noticeable jump in quality. If they did want to go that route, the ps6 or Xbox successor would cost 1000 dollars and games would be 90 dollars a piece.

capitalism, how about just release good games...they gonna advertise 8k 60fps and that shyt wont do half of it without stuttering.......release and hold back in normal version then a few years drop a pro version rinse and repeat:russell:

until games reach death standing graphics standards on average no need..most of these games are just ps4 games with higher frames and slightly better resolution..

Makes sense, especially with Pro already out.

Xbox didn’t make a pro so their “next gen” system will probably come sooner.

Nintendo also on their own time.

Things have changed. The traditional way console “generations” used to work is no more.

Especially with handhelds seemingly being in the mix now.
