Rappers aren't crossing over anymore. The biggest rapper in 2024 (Kendrick Lamar) wasn't even a household name before the Superbowl.
Yes he was... Damn was released in 2017 the 2nd biggest rap album of the whole century, ahead of any Eminem, 50 cent (and co) releases :dead:

Kendrick also has the best selling rap song of all time, and that was released 8 years ago.

Lol. Before 2024 Kendrick Lamar was already the rapper with:

-the longuest charting rap album ever
-the only double diamond single in rap music
-the 2nd biggest rap album since 2001
-the #1 and #2 highest rated rap albums ever
-the only pulitzer prize in rap music
-the best selling rap tour of all time as a solo artist

Just because YOU discovered Kendrick in 2024 doesn't mean he wasn't already a household name.

2024 is Kendrick's 2nd prime, and it can be argued it's not as big as his first.

Not to mention Kendrick is the only rapper that been able to move as many people in Africa and Asia :dead:

Bots posting sales / streaming numbers and thinking ppl actually believe those numbers are real is some wild shyt.
People are smart to know these numbers are real, specially when they convert into ticket sales for stadiums or record breaking tours. Thats the kind of impact we can all see in real life :dead:

When an artist perform in an half empty arena, and another one performs in a sold out stadium such as the RP despite having the most expensive tickets the genre have ever seen, we know which one is bigger.

The last "big artist" to drop was Cardi and her album came and went. Wasn't an outright flop, but it didn't do what they expected.

Not sure when Drake is dropping. Cole is quiet. Kendrick just dropped this year already. Nicki doesn't drop until next year.

Kendrick dropped last year, not this year, and there has been rumors about him releasing the deluxe version of gnx later this year. If thats true, hip hop will be back at the top real quick.

Carti was never chasing hits, his album still did 300k first week and he's on a stadium tour

:ehh:Hiphop returned to the streets/underground. No more suits or corporations that’s what bruhs been asking for right…

The "underground " of today aint the underground of yesteryear. Algorithm chasing is still suits and corporations

Biggest example is all these damn podcasts. This glut aint come from direction of "the streets"

Say what you want about Diddy but bro really brought Hip Hop to a wider audience back in 1997 , that year Hip Hop officially became the number one gerne .. fast forward now this shyt in the abyss

And who exactly benefited from this? When the smoke cleared it was revealed that the industry faces and talent were broke and didnt even control their own likeness .

What exactly is being lost? Images on screens enriching white people while misleading black people?

Im tripping off this being considered a matter of concern. Hip hop aint goin nowhere

The music industry superstructure as we knew it is obsolete

Theres really no point in all that investment and infrastructure when the internet is way more effective in selling products, worldviews, and ideology (hip hop was/is an avenue for these projects) for far less money and effort

To view this from a talent standpoint is to miss the mark

Billboard have changed the rules, music that is near 1 year old is removed off the charts. And since no big rap artist dropped new music...
