This is kind of a spin off, of all the New York threads, but it goes to larger issue. Being a thug is no longer seen as cool, by a large portion of the population. Guys who hang out in front of a corner store all day are finally being seen as the losers they really are. Young people are starting to realize that being a thug, is a dead end lifestyle. New Yorks problem is content. They need more everyman guys like Drake, Jcole,Gambino, and not these coke rap ducktales. Thats why these drill guys are having such a hard time. Outside of local fatherless b*stards, and internet nerds living a second childhood genocide rap doesent have a large appeal. The new genreration is very open minded and not as segregated when it comes to the kind of music they listen to. The only thing they ask for is QUALITY. Say what you want about Drake being soft, but he cares about his music and it shows in the final product. People who actually but music, want quality. They don't want an album of nothing but generic trap beats, and catchphrases.

So meek just doesn't exist????

On what planet is Meek Mill mainstream? Mainstream means everyone knows who you are, even people who don't listen to the music. My grandmother knows who Drake and Chris Brown are.

If meek mill isn't mainstream than 95 percent of street rappers past and present were/are not mainstream

So you just kind of voided your own thread

I was agreeing with OP, nodding my head at his words, until he said that the younger generation is open-minded and they want quality music :usure:

No. Meek has no billboard hits, or platinum albums. Their are plenty of street rappers going back to the early 90's who can claim that.

People say this but it has never happened. Is Jazz poppin right now? What about barbershop quartets? Classical? History never repeats itself.

You know damn well you can't compare today's rappers album sales to rappers from the past. Now the billboard part I'm not sure about, I never follow charts.

Relatively speaking (comparing his album sales to his present peers) I'm sure meek sells just as much as mobb deep, the lox etc have in the past
