Yeah and I'm being objective as I can with Bukele. A lot of innocent people were locked up and had to suffer because of him, but a lot more people have been able to see their lives improve because of what he's done(in the short term). I believe Bukele was fortunate to come into power when he did because while El Salvador probably was in a poor state...their Civil War was far worse than what he actually had/has to address(I'm thinking of Taiwan and Singapore post WW-II, South Korea post Korean War as well). If he came into power in the 90s he would've absolutely accomplished nothing. I actually think he can avoid hurting more people than almost all dictatorships inevitably do.

He always was. The initial “methods” he employed to reduce crimee involved him giving concessions to the terroristic gangs of his country. He safeguarded gang members who beared witness to these dealings from getting extradited. He dissolved and restricted civil protections and corralled people through means of arbitrary profiling and uncorroborated accusations. Dude has always been evil. Latin America and the Caribbean are so right-leaning and myopic that people from the region were actually calling for these practices to be carried out in their respective countries. The irony of it all is dude is Palestinian.
For context I`m not promoting him I`m just saying Dictatorship is a complicated concept. Most Leaders of countries aren't that great thus it gets amplified in a dictatorship, but if you asked someone if their country is doing great and on a good trajectory would they care if the same president keeps things on that trajectory for 30 years, would they care? I'd argue most people will say no keep it up
Latin America has a ton of people of Lebanese, "Jewish", etc ancestry. The richest Mexican family is of Lebanese descent and the president is of "Jewish" ancestry.
