There is a bigger problem that most of the big team sports have within their games at the moment. While they are all making record profits and broadcasting deals and are different sports with their various nuances and intricacies they all have a similar problem. The rule makers have put too much of an emphasis on higher scoring which is great for broadcasters (getting their moneys worth) social media and new age fans. But there has been a growing disconnect over the past 5 years or so happening between the older fans and traditionalists who want a more even contest between attacking and defending.
You can pick a sport and you'll find many fans commenting on how robotic their sport has become over the last decade. Are the modern athletes just too athletic? (*Insert Spiderman Meme*) Which in turn makes the sport lack variety in skills? Are the tactics/analytics suppressing creative freedom and natural flair of the athlete? Or is there jsut too much sport avaliable to watch now that we consume that these things were always there? but didn't notice as much due to being younger or not watching as religiously. I.e going from 2-3 games a week to watching 8-10games a week.
