I think Wayne and Gucci are neck and neck with their influence actually.. I see them both as more influential than Kanye..

Who did the heavy face tats first Wayne or Gucci? I remember when Gucci got the ice cream tat on his face people were calling him crazy and mentally ill.. 6 months later every grimey hood n1gga had huge face tats..Not just the tear drops or crosses like back in the day..Dudes were getting AKs tatted on their foreheads...
The heavy facial, neck, and arm tattoo usage were all influenced by Wayne. I guess you can say the big, gaudy face Tats might've been influenced by Gucci, but that'd be a stretch. Wayne putting tattoos on his face period, influenced most dudes to get face tattoos.

Yeah, Gucci was grinding and was consistently putting out anthems before '08. I acknowledged him and Zaytoven along with Jeezy and Shawty Redd were changing the sound of trap around late '04.
In that case, why do people give Gucci sole credit? Jeezy REALLY put that distinct Trap sound on the map. That Noisey vid about Gucci mane seemed very political. Yeah they mentioned Jeezy somewhat, but only in reference to Gucci and Jeezy's beef. There were so many hands in this creation of Trap, why limit all that credit to one man?

And it seems like many of the major players in the Atlanta rap scene are from elsewhere. Zaytoven is from San Francisco/Bay Area. In one of the Noisey Vids he was talking about how his beats were bay area influenced and how folks in Atlanta felt like his production didn't sound Southern at all. I think Coach K is from up North. Deb Antney's from Queens, BMF(Meech and Southwest T) were from Detroit.

Not Japan
As far as a I know Kendrick is a self admitted Wayne Stan... I don't really hear it too much in his style and certainly not in his subject matter of beat selection... But he has certainly copped to that on numerous occasions...

Nope, the answers are Lil Wayne and Kanye West.

Not saying Gucci isn't influential but he's not near those two. I'll never understand hipster magazines obsession with Gucci Mane and Cam'ron.
Word kanye did make it acceptable to be a fakkit who doesn't write his own shyt. :ehh:

With the whole trap sound, people pick and choose who to credit. Some people will argue Jeezy and say it was TM101 that really put it on the map. Then they'll argue that it was Jeezy's "Who Dat", which wasn't even on TM101, but 2008's The Recession. Then you have the argument for Waka's "Hard In The Paint", and Ross's "MC Hammer" and "BMF" all produced by Lex Luger. Honestly, those three songs are what really defined trap in regard to what it sounds like now. Yes, they are influenced by "Who Dat". Now when you start tracing influences, it goes deeper than Jeezy, Gucci, and T.I.

My argument is that, trap music is something that it wasn't mainstream until T.I. came out with the album in 2003. He was influenced by numerous rappers in creating that album. It opened up a lane for the Jeezy's and Gucci's and everybody that came out later. Like DJ Toomp claims that Shawty Redd was influenced by "Be Easy" when he created Jeezy's sound.
