you think ti started it?

No. T.I. was clearly influenced by Cool Breeze and has even name checked Goodie Mob's "Dirty South" before. He's also heavily influenced by UGK, Eightball & MJG, and NWA. DJ Toomp credits Master P's "Bout It" and "Break Em Off" as being influential in the sound he created for T.I. What T.I. did was take all of that and build on Cool Breeze's reference to the trap and developed "trap music". He expanded on it and labeled the sound. He also brought it to the mainstream.

Hipsters obsession with those 2 is based around the fact they dont view hip hop as art and think ignorant rap is funny to listen to ironically. Same hipsters that made lil b.

:heh: @ the most influential rapper being someone who cant go gold.

I don't identify as a hipster so I can't really say for sure, but I think that while the irony is there to some degree, they do appreciate the fact that both are talented.

Both Cam and Gucci are talented, there's just no two ways about it.

As for not going gold, who gives a shyt. Album sales in my opinion are the single worst metric to use when having a thorough conversation about music.

Wait a minute? We're giving Gucci Mane the credit for inventing Trap Music? No one person can get credit for that. TI's debut album Trap Muzik came out in 2003. Gucci was still underground, but he was only one of many underground artist with that sound and style of rapping. 2005 is when Trap had a distinct sound. And Gucci yet again, was only one artist out of a couple(Jeezy/Boyz N The Hood, Young Dro, Shawty Low) to really put Trap on the Map. I guess his cadence is the only real influential thing. But even THEN, there were many others with that similar lazy cadence. And what's the deal with Noisy and these other Hipster publications and their obsession with the Atlanta rap scene? It's like they just discovered Southern hip hop and strip clubs 2yrs ago.

Not only this but just look at who the hottest producers are right now.

808 Mafia ,Zaytoven and Metro Boomin all come from the Gucci umbrella (808 Mafia came up under Waka...Gucci protege).

3 years ago Gucci dropped 3 different mixtapes with 3 different producers..fast forward to 2015 and there have been 4 different rappers this year to do Zaytoven only tapes :banderas:
i like how nikkas skipped all over this post :jawalrus:

With Gucci it's less about whether he does it best as it is the fact that he did it first.

As the article noted, his style really did predicate today's rap music. Everyone from the obvious Keefs and OG Macos to the Drakes has taken a page out of his book.

I've no doubt in my mind he's the most influential of the last decade. Kanye's influence waned heavily circa 2010, with his Dark Fantasy album. Whereas Gucci's work up to that point held its own and is being reexamined today, and his work beyond that point (Trap God 1 and on to he exact) brought a whole new flavor to the trap sound that is essentially the standard today. All the heavyweight ATL producers have attested to this by the way; TM-88, Mike Will and of course Zaytoven all credit the rise and success of their sound to Gucci.
Trap Music in the way we know it today and TIs album are two very different things. Not taking away from that album by the way, but it is what it is.
But even Trap Music as we know it today, is just an amalgamation of Jeezy/Gucci/Dro and basically every Trap rapper of 2005-2010 and Lil Waynes re-introduction of Lean inspired music in Southern Hip-Hop(basically continuing UGK and 3-6 Mafias introduction of Lean-inspired hip-hop to the mainstream 1999/2000). Gucci was one of many. Just one of many. That "Sound" has been around. Today trap is drastically different sonically than what's been popular for the last 15yrs. Trap music is old.....it really is.

Someone from Noisey, which is an arm of Vice. I've noticed The Booth has mixed feelings about Vice for some reason, but as far as I can tell, they keep it real.

That ATL series they had was dope as fukk.
It was meh. Some episodes were interesting. Other episodes showed nothing you didn't already know if you've been listening to hip-hop for the last 10-11yrs. #Atlanta #Strip Clubs #Guns #Dope Boys #Gentrification #Atlanta=Capital of Black Upward Mobility, #Atlanta=Transportation/Logistics Hub, making it a hub for drug distribution, #BMF

^^^That's basically what all those Noisey/Vice vids boiled down to. But all of this had been said before in Atlanta rap songs.

That's all well and dandy. And an interesting read. But Gucci didn't create Trap Music.
