Nore cool and was def poppin' in '98, but X with his two albums selling like 9M total and Jay doing 5M with the Annie (vol. 2) record was hotter.

Thing is, Nore be on that Uncle Rico tip when talking about '98. It's depressing. Like, dude. you still doing well and relevant.

98... Nore was on the radio all night .. These 4 songs every night funk flex played this shyt. DMX and Jay-Z were on a bigger label but Nore shyt dropped between both albums and he had his 2 months where you would think he was #1

Yeah if you look at the first half of 98 and remember what the radio was like. Now I cant speak for people outside of the East Coast and Europe (who were also connected with the NY Hip Hop scene) but in those places he got so much burn with Banned for TV, NORE, Superthug

98 was a stacked year in terms of albums that would later be remembered as classic but first half it was like Nore, X, Cam, Pun, Hov in the streets along with a few others (Lord Tariq/Peter Gunz, No Limit/Bad Boy )

By 98 hip hop was officially mainstream any and everybody was going gold or platinum around that time, every coast was equally dropping some good shyt instead of just east and west.

Funny enough I just went through the archives of 98 a couple weeks ago. Nore defi WAS one of the hottest that year

Umm behind X and Jay that year, yeah I would give him the # 3 slot. But he wasn't bigger then X and Jay tho.

Nore was the hottest from like June to August. Jay locked down Sept. Spring was DMX, then he bounced back in the winter. Nore was the hottest for the summer..Jay didn't do regular features. Nore was everywhere.

For the full year, I'd say X..but Nore had the summer.

Yea I agree with that breakdown. Top of the year into the spring definitely X. Nore Summer. And Jay had the fall. Funny story, I remember Nore had the Tunnel shutdown for damn near the entire summer because his crew (the Murder Unit) had caused a riot at his album release party there.

I'd say this is the most accurate description. Though I'd say Nore was 1A & X was 1B in the summer, because the momentum of It's Dark & Hell Is Hot was still very strong into the summer. "How It's Going Down was the summer jam from that album. Ah, the days when albums had staying power beyond 2 weeks

That spring/summer, Jay was making up for the missteps he took with Vol 1. So he took it back to the streets with the Streets Is Watching movie and soundtrack. That move gave him and Roc-A-Fella their 2nd wind.
