I swear y'all make it very difficult each day to defend this site as not being a place that dislikes black women.

Y'all could see a breh selling t-shirts on the road or trying to open a small grocery store and there would be nothing but, "DOPE" :salute::salute::salute:

But y'all are in here ridiculing black women for trying smh

You always have a boss. Whoever pays you is your boss.

When that electrician comes over to fix my fuse box, he may be independent owner of his business, but i still get to tell him what to do when i hire his services just like that mid level manager people complain about in a office job.

and even worse, since i don't have to ever see him again, i can treat him like shyt, not pay him if i'm unhappy with his work, and throw all kinds of abuse his way without every having to worry about bad reviews or bbb, or unemployment coming after me. I can terminate his contract just because he one race or another and not have anti discrimation laws.

The only independence you truly get is being able to work when you want, make your own schedule. and even that aspect is iffy, because we can work from home now and basically do the same with any office job,
Levels to it. If you have your own shyt boss wise you aren't in the same league as somebody who has to be given a time to go to lunch.

I really had to point that out? By your estimation why try anything at all? That's a scary outlook. If I wrote a novel and that shyt sold 2 million copies yeah I technically have a boss(the publisher) but they aren't standing over me. All I have to do is produce.

Yeah, we've never heard artists complain about their publishers or their record labels or whatnot before. I feel you.

I'm not trying to make a negative outlook, just pointing out that there are no shortcuts, nothing is easy.

how did u survive those first couple years in the red? did u still work a 9-5 to hold u over?
Army benefits, my chick was working for a family member on top of selling cars at a dealership so I had a cushion. Biggest and I mean the biggest mistake I made was thinking landscaping was as easy as showing up door to door and buying second hand/beat up equipment.

Coulda swore the TLR motto was always “start your own business” :ld:

Yes we need more Black businesses but we also need to make sure Black businesses have access to capital. Plus Black people have smaller professional networks so we are automatically at a disadvantage when starting a business compared to cacs. All of this is due to racism. Eliminate the racism instead of telling people not to start a business. Black folks should not have undue burdens.

This is due to the types of businesses started. Also the lack of capital to expand and promote.

How many hair salons and restaurants do we need?

We need more service industry or trade based businesses. It seems a lot of women on IG that got on the trucking wave are doing well for themselves and have an asset in the truck.

My wife’s circle has a couple of black women owners and they seem to be doing well.

Somewhere tropic...
I wouldn't discourage entrepreneurship
Just know what you're getting into, the sacrifices it entails and don't do it just to stunt on IG
and most businesses fail within 3 years
Many successful entrepreneurs have failed ventures in their past

Yeah, this is why I think I'm going to start spending less time here. It's just really weird negative energy.

Some of yall don't seem to realize revenue is not profit.

24k in revenue is money generated before any expenses are deducted. Most of these businesses bw tend to start are reselling products or have high fixed cost so they ain't even squeezing a profit from that 24k.

$24k in revenue for a business is an accomplishment. To even turn $100 of profit in a business is difficult

Not gonna lie, I rather date a woman with $24k in revenue in a business than someone who's making $90k a year at a standard W-2 job with no business to speak of :manny:

To wife up a female entrepreneur would be awesome

This is the type of thinking that keeps generations of black folks broke. Turn down 90k with full benefits for $0 net profit business. Most folks would be better off getting a degree in a good field and getting a job.

A typical corporate benefits package (401k match, health insurance, paid holidays and vacation and sick time) is normally worth over 20k alone on top of your salary.

I was talking with a coworker yesterday about our networking issues as black people. We can put a lot of innovative ideas and solutions together. Black people are VERY smart. However as a group, we don't have the business sense and wherewithal to come together to even work out a blueprint. Can't even get STARTED on an idea :( We love to brag about what we're doing individually though.

The network issue is these cacs keeping Black folks out of high level management positions
