Problem is profit margins are too thin to even pay the workers regular minimum wage. Every single added expense affects the prices of the food. If you paid the workers minimum wage your food would damn near double (conservative guess) once it's all said and done and the work is also seasonal. Farmer's work forces fluctuate depending on the time time of year also farm subsidies are already badly handled by our government. Like this is a layered issue that Trump and the Republicans have exacerbated on both ends by refusing to support increased funding for the farmers. Basically the way it worked the farmers for every dollar they spend at best get back 25 cents. We could easily solve this problem and many more by increasing the taxes on the wealthy by basically 5 percent and cutting our defense spending and foreign aid.
