I honestly don't give a shyt about this. Nipsey isn't some type of martyr. He was a gang banger at the end of the day. As black men, we have seen this picture a million time. Death or Prison is usually the end result of this lifestyle. He unfortunately met death. Lots of black men have been dying or going to prison over this dumb shyt. I don't know who killed him or why, but I have the wisdom based upon my own experiences, and really we all should given other high profile rappers who have been murdered, to say a few words...

This is what happens when you don't distance yourself from your past. Distance doesn't mean you don't maintain the energy to better your community as he was doing. But when you openly hang with active gang members in the areas active gang members do work, especially considering you were one at some point, you enlarged your potential to be a target...

I've never known Nipsey or anyone directly affiliated with him. I did used to live in LA and have some friends and family there and my understanding has never been that he was free of association to his crew. That may be your inference but that was never my understanding, and I've been hearing his name (as a non-native of LA) for well over 5 years...

I can tell you the few people I still associate with, are no longer around the areas we used to hang in. I no longer hang in the areas or in the atmosphere I grew up or built myself in. Every time I've thought about it, I second guess it and change my mind. Because as fresh as this is, it's high profile because of who Nip was, but this movie has played many times before with guys who just weren't public figures like Nip. There is an assload of martyrs of cats who largely turned their lives around and still were killed, in pretty much every city that has ghettos across America...

So this story is familiar to me and it resonates both because of people in my own life and because of how easily myself or one of my own could become a victim.....you gotta cut the cord. Hov has set the best example, there are other entertainers who have as well. You gotta cut the cord...

I am sorry but I can't believe this. Being a gang member shows lack of morality. Gang members, rape, kill and contribute to the destruction of their community. They are bad people. I do give him props for investing in his community. He should get recognition for that but you can never truly escape that life.

He still repped his crew and didn't live him behind. So if they did anything stupid, he would be the likely target of retaliation. Just because he changed as a person, that doesn't mean the people around him changed. He is a high profile target.

This is bigger than "gang violence" , anytime a black man tries to do something constructive or beneficial, they get taken down in some form. Broad day on his own territory, this was infiltration on a level beyond just gangs or getting caught lacking. Hope there's no retaliation or reprisal until they think this through.

Do you know the origin of gangs?? The concept of gangs started with the concept of community protection based on regional ties. Not all gang members are on some murder, rape, kill shyt. Generalizing a whole group as deviants off affiliation is not accurate.

This is a galvanizing point. This is a point where serious changes could be made.
