No funny shyt I was watching juice and idk there was just a different feeling back when NYC was the mecca I can't put my finger on it but the game def been missing that soul ever since the south took it
Nope. NY killed NY hip hop. That crab in a barrel mentality killed them. They all wanna be kings and consistently undercut other ppl tryna come thru. That sht takes a toll after a while.

what did the south do? Stop looking for recognition from up north and started focusing on the south. Once the rest of the country hopped on they wave, NY was irrelevant :russ:

TYRONE GA!
I'm sick of seeing this dumb ass take.

Blaming The South for "The Death of Hip Hop" is like blaming mcdonalds cause you're fat.
Church.

If anything, letting corporations take over the artform was the start of shyt changing. "Fun" and pro-black rap being purposely phased out. Deliberately pushing crossover shyt, which at one point was VERY frowned upon and a sin in the culture, to becoming acceptable was :francis: as well. Split shyt between commercial/underground and those trying to balance the two.

Greedy American Cacs ruin everything they touch.

The regionalization bullshyt started when the media hyped up the East Coast/West Coast nonsense that cost us the lives of 2 Hip-Hop GOATS.

That aside, the spotlight moved around as Radio & TV channels that played rap songs/videos allowed it to and focused on whatever was popping at the time. But we all got to the point at least 10 years ago where everything became accessible. If you are listening to or watching trash rap in 2025, that's by choice and you are a goof :camby:

The internet and accessibility killed it tbh. Back then you needed to have some talent/skill to get on.

Now anyone can just hook up a mic to their computer, download a beat off YouTube and possibly go viral. And with lyrics not even mattering anymore, what real skill do you need to be a rapper in 2025?

They don’t make beats. You don’t need to spend any time honing your writing ability. You don’t need singing ability since the engineer can adjust your voice with autotune.

I blame Jay-Z and Wayne as well too. They made the whole “not writing rhymes” thing popular which lead into lyrics being and afterthought. This is why the local shooter or weed carrier can just hop in the booth and become famous. These dudes aren’t really songwriters. They have no real background in music. None in poetry. They didn’t spend years refining their writing ability, so of course the quality of the music drops as a result.
