Sunday estimates was off a milly. It made 58 million. Great for WB. We needed this(I work for them). 1# studio this year so far, even beating Disney.
What a rollercoaster ride for De Luca and Abdy. Weapons should eat next month. Still a little nervous for OBAA, but feel way better about it than I did months ago. Newest trailer seemed to connect a lot for folks at my theater. With you working for WB, I’m curious what the air currently is like there surrounding that film.

PTA’s stuff don’t usually turn a profit and I’m not expecting that to change, but if it gains enough critical acclaim that warrants serious discussion come awards season then that would be a big dub for the crew and WB. I’d assume that’s the biggest reason they took a swing on this in the first place. Either way, I’m gon eat. Genuinely one of the best filmmakers to ever do it.

I work in the broadcast distribution division. I'm not in the film department, but the stock affects us all the same(for now).
The Superman rollout at work was crazy insane. Lots of food and games in the company. They gave us all free t shirts and free early tickets to see the flick at a variety of theatres at certain times. Coolest thing so far, was having Coogler speak in our "All hands" meeting.

I expect it do well, especially with not much competition coming in the upcoming weeks.
You might be right. Im biased i guess because it looks wack to me. I think F4 tops out at 225 to 250 domestically but yeah the non competition could give it legs and maybe it makes closer to 300 or over but i have my doubts.

(Marvel's) First Family! $118M Mothafukka! Weekend Box Office Results (Jul. 25-27)

The Fantastic Four: First Steps arrived and did so in style with a $118M opening weekend. That is less than Superman's $125M. And that is despite Marvel's first family beating the man of steel in Thursday Previews with $24.4M to Superman's $22.5M. That speaks to the front-loaded nature of The Fantastic Four, as its $57M opening Friday was the second highest this year, right behind A Minecraft Movie's $57.1M.

But it's not all bad. First Steps' $118M is only the fourth $100M 3-day weekend of the year. Jurassic World Rebirth and Captain America: Brave New World made $100M+ in their 5-day openings. And it's also the 10th best July opening ever. It just edged out Spider-Man: Homecomings $117M. But it trailed other MCU entries - Deadpool & Wolverine having the best ever July opening with $211.4M and Thor Love and Thunder's $144.1M. But the number three MCU July opening ain't bad. :ehh:

In terms of the greater scope of the MCU, First Steps is the 18th best opening. Has previously mentioned it beat Spider-Man: Homecoming but finished just behind Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3's $118.4M. Either way you slice it, The Fantastic Four is falling short of what James Gunn put out for DC and Marvel. :wow:

Superman is halfway to a surely unreachable billion with $502.7M in global ticket sales after $24.8M in its third weekend. We can thank First Steps for eating into the sales but that's 25% lower than the $33.1M third weekend of fellow WB production Sinners. Whatever happened to Michael B. Jordan playing Superman? :patrice:

oceansjonas-superman-2025.gif

Jurassic World Rebirth has grossed $301.5M so far after a $13M weekend. It's the 3rd highest grossing movie this year and joins all three prior Jurassic World entries and the original Jurassic Park in the $300 million club. All four of the aforementioned films have made $1 billion. Rebirth is at $718.3M so far.

But making hundreds of millions of dollars is not. :wow:

FI: The Movie is not slowing down. It continues to speed around the track and made $6.2M. Gotta get those puns off like the pit crew get those tires off. :banderas: Its $165.5M domestic haul makes it the 10th biggest movie of the year. It's grosses $509.6M worldwide. :ooh:

Smurfs got its hook into I Know What You Did Last Summer and cut it down with $5.4M to $5.1M.

Notables

How to Train Your Dragon has grossed $605.9M worldwide.

Lilo & Stitch made another $917K and has grossed $1B worldwide.

After making $565k this weekend, 28 Weeks Later has crossed $70M domestically.

Thunderbolts* is still playing in 45 theaters and just crawled to $190.1M. it has a near even domestic / foreign split with $192.1M coming from overseas. It's the MCU'S 9th lowest grossing entry. It ain't leaving the Bottom 10 as it is not going to catch Captain America: Brave New World's $200.5M. :wow:

Marvel movies are very front loaded on opening weekends. The fanboys all rush to see it on Thursday and Friday to beat spoilers. Not a surprise it petered out on Sat and Sun.

Superman outgrossing it opening weekend is a sign of Marvel fatigue, I would argue.

I'm glad both films will likely made a tidy profit; they were both solid.

I don’t wanna hear shyt else about this fake ass CBM fatigue.

I bet in this time period we finna get 100 same shyt horror flicks, 30 same shyt cartoon films, 40 same shyt dramas/action movies but no one gonna have a problem with that

Very solid start for F4, if not fantastic. :ehh:

The real test will be to see how it holds up over the next few weeks. No major blockbusters coming out in August, but a number of different releases to draw attention away.

The yearlong delay couldn't come at a better time for CBM as they have a problem and budgets are going to have to start coming down because of it. People also might want to temper their expectations for the box office for Doomsday as the overseas box office just isn't there like it used to be whether due to superhero fatigue or waning interest.

It was hilarious though watching Reddit's reaction when the original $150M estimate for F4 a few weeks ago came back to earth after initially thinking it was going to do better than Superman.
