(Marvel's) First Family! $118M Mothafukka! Weekend Box Office Results (Jul. 25-27)
The Fantastic Four: First Steps arrived and did so in style with a
$118M opening weekend. That is less than
Superman's $125M. And that is despite Marvel's first family beating the man of steel in Thursday Previews with
$24.4M to
Superman's $22.5M. That speaks to the front-loaded nature of
The Fantastic Four, as its
$57M opening Friday was the second highest this year, right behind
A Minecraft Movie's $57.1M.
But it's not all bad.
First Steps' $118M is only the fourth $100M 3-day weekend of the year.
Jurassic World Rebirth and
Captain America: Brave New World made $100M+ in their 5-day openings. And it's also the 10th best July opening ever. It just edged out
Spider-Man: Homecomings $117M. But it trailed other MCU entries -
Deadpool & Wolverine having the best ever July opening with
$211.4M and
Thor Love and Thunder's $144.1M. But the number three MCU July opening ain't bad.
In terms of the greater scope of the
MCU,
First Steps is the
18th best opening. Has previously mentioned it beat
Spider-Man: Homecoming but finished just behind
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3's $118.4M. Either way you slice it,
The Fantastic Four is falling short of what James Gunn put out for DC and Marvel.
Superman is halfway to a surely unreachable billion with $502.7M in global ticket sales after
$24.8M in its third weekend. We can thank
First Steps for eating into the sales but that's 25% lower than the
$33.1M third weekend of fellow WB production
Sinners. Whatever happened to Michael B. Jordan playing Superman?
Jurassic World Rebirth has grossed
$301.5M so far after a
$13M weekend. It's the 3rd highest grossing movie this year and joins all three prior
Jurassic World entries and the original
Jurassic Park in the $300 million club. All four of the aforementioned films have made $1 billion.
Rebirth is at
$718.3M so far.
But making hundreds of millions of dollars is not.
FI: The Movie is not slowing down. It continues to speed around the track and made
$6.2M. Gotta get those puns off like the pit crew get those tires off.

Its
$165.5M domestic haul makes it the 10th biggest movie of the year. It's grosses
$509.6M worldwide.
Smurfs got its hook into
I Know What You Did Last Summer and cut it down with
$5.4M to
$5.1M.
Notables
How to Train Your Dragon has grossed
$605.9M worldwide.
Lilo & Stitch made another
$917K and has grossed
$1B worldwide.
After making
$565k this weekend,
28 Weeks Later has crossed $70M domestically.
Thunderbolts* is still playing in 45 theaters and just crawled to
$190.1M. it has a near even domestic / foreign split with
$192.1M coming from overseas. It's the MCU'S
9th lowest grossing entry. It ain't leaving the Bottom 10 as it is not going to catch
Captain America: Brave New World's $200.5M.
