An R&b artist making music that becomes pop-ular does not make them pop. When you hear pop, you know it. It has a cheesy, for white palettes element to it. Off the top of my head, the Neyo song with Pit Bull is clearly pop.

Now Chris brown or any r&b artist can make pop and vice versa, but what you do the majority of the time defines you. 90% of the time Chris brown is making (modern) r&b. As opposed to Bruno Mars and the fukkshyt he makes. He is clearly a pop artist

I have other responses to my quotes. I said in them Chris Brown would have been better off filling the pop lane because of his talents. Comparing his vocal skills and discography to the other great R&B artists from the 70s, 80s, and 90s...CB cant sit nowhere near those top tiers. The fusion of hiphop and r&b got alot of yall mfers fooled on actual R&B skills and songs.

That’s the last time you had consistent artists, and quality matched popularity. For the most part now you likely will only have 1 of the 2.

Neyo went pop. John legend went lounge act. Anthony Hamilton and Jaheim fell victim to gentrification they didn’t look the part. It’s a shame bc while I love Confessions, a few of those albums are better
