Outside of Staten Island and Long Island, they're not as visible in NYC as they used to be. You'll still run into them for sure but they're more scattered outside of Staten Island. Bensonhurst is basically Flushing 2.0 with the heavy Chinese presence. Bay Ridge and Bath Beach got taken over by Arabs, Albanians, and Eastern Europeans. Park Slope has gotten gentrified. Little Italy in Manhattan has become Chinese. Little Italy in the Bronx has become Albanian/Mexican. Ozone Park has become Guyanese/Indian and Hispanic. Pelham Parkway has become Albanian/Caribbean Hispanic. Howard Beach is probably the last true Italian stronghold in NYC outside the island but the neighborhood is small and is also becoming more diverse.
Basically, Italian Americans are slowly becoming a non-factor in NYC just like Irish Americans(who also went from super dominant in NYC to becoming much less visible over time outside Woodlawn). Staten Island is keeping their community afloat. Even the pizzerias these days tend to be staffed by a lot of Albanians, Greeks, Hispanics, and Arabs. And organized crime wise, the Russians, Albanians, Chinese, and Cartels hold more weight than the modern day Five Families even though the latter still have clout in gambling and unions but they've definitely fallen off. There's snitches galore and they had to resort to recruiting Bloods and other minority gangs to do some of their low level dirty work.
I'd say there's still a lot of
sentiment among Italian Americans 40 and older but the Millennial/Gen Z ones can be super cool and feel really close to Blacks and Hispanics in contrast to WASPs or "peckerwood" Whites. I ran into a lot of young Italians that casually say "Nygga" to each other too which I'm not cool with but they literally justify it by claiming that they're Italian which I guess is supposed to give them more of a pass. 
With regards to interracial relationships, I noticed a ton of Italian/Puerto Rican couples and mixes especially in Queens/Brooklyn/Long Island. Even some of the chicks from Mob Wives and Real Housewives NJ dealt with Hispanic dudes or even married them. Italian women will mess with brothers on the low too but hardly get involved in actual relationships or marriages with us due to the family reception. Hispanic dudes sometimes look Italian and they share a Catholic faith so they get more of a pass.
Funnily enough, due to how diverse the Tri-State is becoming, you could make the argument that Rhode Island is the actual mecca for Italian Americans. Every
other White person there has an Italian or Portuguese background. I heard they both sometimes feud like Puerto Ricans and Dominicans up there too lol.
