Seriously Mamdani is going to say 9.5% property tax and stabilized housing Rent Freeze and fukk them resident real estate owners up something crazy. I’m assuming that is the next step…. In which case the real estate lobby is going to be on hochul’s head to give him that 2% wealth tax.

Cause based on Mamdani’s plan it will be two years of them paying at least 9.5% with no increases in rent. Compared to all the other millionaires pay a 2% increase.

On Tuesday, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani laid out two possible paths to closing a $5.4 billion budget gap next year, both of which involve tax hikes.

The first – his preferred method – would include a personal income tax rate hike of two percentage points on people making over $1 million annually, as well as a corporate tax hike. The second – which he described as a “last resort” option – would include a 9.5% increase in the overall property tax rate in New York City.

Those figures shouldn’t be understood in the same way. Though Mamdani has at times described his income tax proposal as a 2% increase – “I’m asking for a 2% raise in personal income taxes on the most affluent New Yorkers,” he said on Tin Cup Day – it would in fact be an increase of two percentage points, or a roughly 52% increase in what those New Yorkers are paying in city income tax. Per city budget officials, the city income tax rate would rise from about 3.88% to 5.88% under Mamdani’s millionaire tax proposal. (Mamdani has at other times described it more clearly. During the campaign, he called for a new, flat 2% tax on people making $1 million or more annually, which would equate to paying $20,000 more in taxes for those who make exactly $1 million.)

Property tax rates vary, but Mamdani has proposed raising the city’s average rate from 12.28% to 13.45%, according to his financial plan.

The confusion is perhaps unintentional, but it does have the effect of minimizing the tax on the rich Mamdani is proposing – “Come on! It’s just 2%! No big deal!” – while the higher 9.5% figure inflates the threat of higher property taxes – “Watch out Kathy Hochul, people are going to be pissed about this!” Both serve Mamdani’s political narrative.

A spokesperson for City Hall did not comment when asked if the alternative tax hike pitches have been misleading. But the mayor’s office has characterized an additional 2-point tax for a class already facing a combined city, state and federal tax rate of 45% as relatively small.

Ana Champeny, vice president for research at the fiscal watchdog group Citizens Budget Commission, said that she didn’t see a problem in how Mamdani has presented the tax proposals, noting that the nuances of how the city’s property tax is assessed could make it simpler to describe it as a 9.5% increase.

This is what those gentrifiers and transplants voted for. :laff: and a lot of them do not have money like that and are BARELY getting by. Theres super rich wealthy people though in the mix, sprinkled here and there but a lot of those constituents are just meeting the line between broke and getting by. Basically this is the people who got tricked into college debt that basically are living beyond their means. Nobody is talking about how theres a lot of people with debt to their names. Im just curious whats gonna become of that demographic. Theyre the ones that are all up in Bushwick, Williamsburg, and all those gentrified neighborhoods.

My concern is that where these people may move to especially with the idiotic level of money they are willing to spend to be in some so called "cool" neighborhood. I feel like these people are a Trojan horse for shyt to be unaffordable EVERYWHERE and these guys are willing to attempt to pay for it on some dumb consumer shyt. I do not see whats so cool about the gentrified neighborhoods which are overpriced like a mug. Like whats so hot about Bushwick and williamsburg where all these young people want to live there? shyt is just weird to me and feels fake.

These guys got played hard and theyre ruining shyt for themselves and everybody too. :mjlol: its like when I see these folks in the Bushwick and williamsburg reddit crying about such store closing in less than a year and im thinking like.."uhhhh... you do understand that the cost of life where you live is extremely high, right? Same shyt with them looking for roommates and breaking rent leases. How do you manage to afford or why do you want to live in THIS neighborhood? Whats so cool about this shyt thats worth spending all these thousands for? Living on top of everybody and having no space? Like whats the excitement in that worth 2,000 dollars for a room? And now the rent will go up because of that. Im sorry but shyt doesnt make sense to me at all. Even the greed of these dikkheads that want all this money. How much money do you need?

This is the danger of what happens when people are lying to themselves and arent keeping it real. Got them thinking theyre getting free shyt from lying ass millionaires cosplaying that theyre middle class/working class people serving the technocrats. They dont have it and dont want to admit it. Thats why they voted thinking Mamdani was help lessen their living expenses with free buses and food banks :mjlol: but theyll look down at all the low income and working class people as if that aint them. Socialism is always a talking point for the gentrifiers because theyre broke but want to have "nice things" at the expense of the government without paying for it. :snoop:

They can probably file a class action suit and not pay anything during the court proceedings.

They can offset the increase with reduced expenses in upkeep plus you can claim property taxes on their federal tax return.

Zohran today announced six new members to the rent guideline board now he has the majority. Based on public information I can confidently say that they all will vote to freeze the rent for stabilized apartments in NYC
