Dallas, Texas but living in Houston, Texas
New Yawk Kneegrows?

Why Cuomo?

I'm sitting way the hell down in The People's Republic of Texassistan and just off some news articles and debate videos....seems like Mumdani is a much better choice.

Am I missing something?

Also, them Drumpfs are hella insecure about Barack Hussein Obama.

Got damn he killed him with that!

This would be undoubtedly worse than Brandon Johnson, and he’s absolutely horrendous.

These people who voted for this socialist just hear the words “free” and “rent freeze” and think everything will be perfect. There is zero logical reason for anyone with a functioning brain to vote for him. This will be an absolute disaster for NYC. Going to start looking like Venezuela. :wow: .
It’s funny bc I’m chilling with my girl tonight and she randomly looks up the candidates after seeing a Brad Lander ad. She sees Mamdani’s name and sees “free buses” under his campaign promise and goes, well how is he going to get that done? I basically tell her he’s got to either raise taxes or cut funding from something and allocate the funds to that cause. He might fukked the city up something viciously just by being a n00b, but he’s proven he has the support of the people, so we shall see. I’m just glad I don’t live in NYC :manny:

I beg brehs to absolutely reject this guys antiquated thinking. Background: 20 year NYC resident. I have worked in finance for 15. And yet I have become more socialist in my thinking as:

The barbarism of a for profit prison system continues unabated

Wages stagnate as productivity has increased

Healthcare crisis

Cost of living crisis

Housing crisis- record homelessness

Child care crisis

Education crisis

All with a fascist government and a feckless opposition party more concerned with its own entrenched interests than fighting it. An administration with 10 billionaires in its cabinet focused solely on looting the public coffers and protecting themselves from being taxed a penny more.

People such as this have no solutions for these issues just shytting on those who want to boldly go in a different direction. Mamdani, after starting out 40 points behind Cuomo with all his PAC money, attack ads and establishment backing lost embarrassingly signifying a true shift in where the public is at. He won in diverse areas doubled up Cuomo in Harlem - even after there being questions about whether he could get black votes.

This will have national implications given the profile of the mayor of New York and provides a road map of how to win in the age of Trump. It’s a true shot in the battle against a stagnant Democratic establishment that has for too long filled its mouth at the trough of big money. He ran a true grassroots campaign that I was proud to canvass for and how about that. When you go the people you can actually win.

For the first time in a long time in politics I allowed myself to feel a bit of hope. So when you see comments like the one above just remember this - if we have any way of getting out of this mess it will be through the politics of someone like Mamdani not whoever he would support with his mindless “they just want free stuff” mantra.

Como might have a shot if he sees people second guessing the social policies of Mamdani.

These things would change the quality of life dramatically for black people:
1. An increase in the minimum wage
2. Free or heavily subsidized child care
3. Free or heavily subsidized post secondary education.
4. Rent control and pro tenant legislation
5. Anti-union busting legislation.
6. Redistribution of police budgets into crime prevention programs and anti-recividism programs.
7. A public Healthcare option.
8. Increased funding for public schools.
9. Increased funding in public transportation.

All of these policies are generally popular among the public, and the time when black wealth grew the most was when democrats still supported the new deal. Black people are overrepresented in minimum wage service industry jobs. Black people are less likely to be able to afford child care. Black people are overrepresented in bad credit statistics making it harder for us to get loans for college or to start a business. Black people are underrepresented in home ownership rates. Rent subsidies and tenant protections give us the opportunity to actually save money for housing. Unionized workers make more money and have better benefits, black people are not in enough unionized work places and those who are have higher job security. Job security is important for black families. Black neighborhoods are safer when the people who would commit crimes are redirected or allowed to integrate into the community if they've been incarcerated. Black men are overrepresented in the prison statistics and a big reason why people go back to jail is because they don't have job prospects when they get out. Black people have a lower life expectancy partially because so many of us have no health insurance or have terrible coverage.

White wealth on average is higher, they wouldn't even qualify for some of these things, but enough of them would to the point where they would get activated and vote. They dont care about pronouns and all that other shyt, they want to know if the person in charge will improve their lives. They have the luxury of not being political if they don't want to be, black people dont. Programs that help us are always what rich whites and their pet minorities want to cut. A small enough percentage of white people who would benefit from these universal programs would show up to make enough of a difference and black people who currently are struggling with any of these things above would 100% have a reason to get out and vote for that.
