Generational change is coming: Since Zohran Mamdani won on Tuesday night, more than 1100 young people have reached out to
@runforsomething.net to explore a run for local office -- one of our biggest spikes of the year yet.

I've defended old guard D leadership as flawed, but much better than Rs. But I admit: I've always wanted them to tell it like it is. Stop following polls. Mamdani seems to be that rare pol who simply stands for what he believes in.
More of that - I don't care if it's old guard or new, just more.

In 1968, the Democratic Party was split between 'establishment' Humphrey and progressive Gene McCarthy. The split put Nixon in the WH.
That was the first election I voted in.
Let's not throw the baby out w the bathwater to get what we want! Democrats' divisions elect Republicans.

I was thinking about you and Run for Something that night. Felt like a big night for new leaders to make the leap.

If anyone says you’re too young to run for office, remind them that the dudes who wrote the Constitution were like 20 years old.

LOVE TO HEAR THIS.

Bring it. Too many politicians have been in office so long they are out of touch with the day to day reality of their constituents. That is if they ever were in touch in the first place. Many have spent their lives in ivory towers and are clueless and useless.

When Kamala lost, an older relative said that we need to run a *more* moderate Democrat. And I don’t even know what that would look like, honestly. Like, how can you get more moderate and still be a Democrat? My answer is we need to run a fukking progressive. I sense the support is there. DNC blocks

billbre.bsky.social
That’s exactly what the republicans are looking for a progressive. A common sense democrat can an will easily win.

I’m “running for something” for the first time after our Town Board lost a beloved member last month. Our Town Caucus to pick a Dem candidate is Monday. This week I got emails & postcards to Dem neighbors & whipped up a FB page. 1st time dipping my toe in the pond.

So great!

Also good to add to all progressive political campaigns the goal of educating voters on how their local system works & how organizing works. Win or lose, they would all be more educated & empowered & have a bit of a movement & could collectively achieve their platform's goals regardless

We need friends at every level of government, city, country, state and organizing voter engagement activity in neighborhoods... it's how conservatives captured the government so quickly and without any violence. Sadly, they will use violence to keep it so... let's be quick and thorough!

The only viable 3rd party in this country is not Green or Libertarians but a “Youth Party” with bylaws on term limits and retirement requirements.
- 10 terms in the House
- 2 terms in the Senate
- can’t run for re-election over 55.
My $.02

Mostly agree, except we expect our citizens to work until they're 67. To represent all American workers, i think you should be able to run though age 65.

I’m glad these young whippersnappers are engaging. This is their future and planet they’re fighting for, so it’s good they’re wresting the reins from us.

I’m a geriatric millennial & I would vote for these young candidates. And I would work FOR them. Gladly. To be sure they succeed. This should be the role of the Dems senior leadership. This is the way forward.

I can't take credit for what I'm about to say because somebody else said it and I think it resounds well in my soul. I think it's time that we, the people make it our goal in the ballot boxes to nullify both parties! Need the party has fought for Americans true desires and wants for a long time.

The person that brought this idea up shared about a time in our nation's history where the abolitionist before the civil war were able to form a political block outside of the Whigs and the Democratic parties. They were able to be a force to be reckoned with and would later become the GOP.
