They got 2 other massive contracts on the books (Stanton + Cole). Their farm system is meh. The Yankees haven't shown they're willing to bring in top notch free agents to win.

So what's the end game? Boone obviously isn't the right manager for this team. The talent simply isn't there. Sure, they will always be good enough to get to the post season, but that about it.
