We do need to police our own communities. We don't need a police force. We need emergency services like fire and ambulances, but we dont need cops. They are an occupying force intended to maintain class structure and protect property, except they do it under the guise of protecting the public.
What youre saying sounds good on paper but doesnt work in real life.
There exists a drug lord right now in various cities across the world that has the power to intimidate everybody in said city, in favor of his own twisted motives.
What youre advocating is a wild west system akin to survival of the fittest. The local criminal who gains the most clout will end up being the 'police' of that community, and quite possibly warring factions coming in to seize control.
You dont know what youre talking about and suggesting a system of near complete chaos and total control under he who is able to seize it.
Only about 10% of cops should carry guns ON THEIR BODY. the rest should be required to keep them in their cars, and the federal government should implement strict gun laws a la New York/Cali. Difference is it should be ok to have them in the house, but there is no excuse to have one in public/ off your property.
America has wasted a lot of money on the Department of Defense, and their excuse for that waste of money was giving all of these police departments excess military munitions.
Police should only police the communities they live in, and should have to complete a course on social justice that is as rigorous as their physical training.
We cannot rely on the powers that be to fix our problems. They profit off of our problems. We have to advocate for this and force the issue.

Are you a cop?This is great. Yes, you need to be part of the community you police. Nothing worse than a cac from Long Island trying to police a neighborhood in the guts of Brownsville.
But the idea that police shouldnt have guns in public is a stupid one. shyt, I would try a police officer that doesnt have the ability to shoot me on demand. Theres many others that would kill one to get away under hot pursuit. They need a gun on their person, especially when the criminals they arrest have them too.

But see thats where ther societal change must occur. If we criminalize having a LOADED gun in public and make concealed carry permits next to impossible to obtain, we could also reduce the armaments of the police.

It starts with awareness, and a solution I believe police who live in and/or familiar with the demographic in the community should police it.
Met a cop the other day in bedstuy ( a inner city black neighborhood) and hes a cac from Valley Stream Long Island (The racial make up of the village is 78.8% White, 7.5% African American [..]. The median household income was $62,243 and the family income was $72,585. Median household income for the village is $77,905, and the median income for a family is $84,273)

As long as there exists gun culture in America, the cops need have guns as well.
Having pellet guns will do nothing to back down a perp with a .45 caliber in his waistband. Even if it had the potential to, you really want an officer shaking in his boots uncomfortable because he knows if it hits the fan he cant neutralize the issue?

Whats illogical to me is thinking that you can cape for one armed group of thugs (the police) over another (the criminals). Until the police are held accountable to the same standards of law, they are just another criminal organization in my eyes.
