I realize this isn't the opinion commonly held for this case here, but I think the prosecutors and the jury got it right on this one, just based on the evidence. There is a lot. It isn't a circumstantial case. He fits the profile of these kinds of sexually motivated killings, in terms of unemployment, living with parents, relatively close to the victim and her neighborhood.

DNA under her fingernails matched his. The confession. His phone had photos of the crime downloaded, and google searches for second chances, the latter may mean what it implies, or it may not. I don't think the police framed him, though there may be many angles of the case that are called into account, and you wish the NYPD had a higher moral ground to defend themselves against blatant corruption.

I assume he was cleared by medical professionals to stand trial, and his degree of mental illness meets the criteria for criminal incarceration vs a hospital. The whole thing is very sad and awful, because the kid isn't born a monster, and probably isn't one now, a great book I read talked about if you can intervene and change the course of someone who becomes a sexually motivated killer.

4 jurors committed misconduct in Karina Vetrano trial: defense

Lawyers for Karina Vetrano’s convicted killer claim that at least four jurors on the panel that found him guilty in the jogger’s 2016 slaying committed misconduct, new court documents show.

The motions by Chanel Lewis’ defense team allege two jurors talked about the case before deliberations kicked off — despite warnings from the judge not to do so.

One of those jurors is also accused by the defense of ripping up someone’s request to hear evidence because the panelist didn’t want to stay late.

Yet another female juror told a male panelist to shut up after he questioned whether Lewis had raped Vetrano because there was no vaginal DNA evidence. The female juror said she herself was a rape victim and knew more about sexual assault than he did.

Finally, another panelist tried to draw comparisons between this case and a rape trial she’d sat on in The Bronx, defense attorneys said.

The jury found Lewis guilty of Vetrano’s killing April 1, following five hours of deliberation.

Ventrano, 30, was found strangled with her pants pulled down in a marshy area near her Howard Beach home. Lewis initially confessed but later recanted.

The filings, which led Lewis’ sentencing to be rescheduled Wednesday, seek to overturn the verdict as they recount the jurors’ alleged misdeeds.

The documents claim that two panelists improperly talked about their feeling on the case before deliberations.

“Specifically, JUROR B stated to JUROR A, ‘well, I have my mind made up, and I hope you do too’ after the victim’s parents testified,” reads one motion.

The filing also claims that when the juror who was a rape victim told another panelist to shut up, that wrongly led to discussions about the jurors’ personal DNA knowledge.

“JUROR D improperly supplemented the evidence presented at trial with her own personal experience in such a way that led others to feel they could not challenge her and had to take her at her word,” the papers say.

Lewis’s lawyers claim yet another juror, who previously served in The Bronx on a rape trial, also tried to insert her own expertise and draw parallels between the two cases.

Prosecutors filed their own set of motions refuting the allegations — including saying the same woman identified in defense papers as Juror D denied ever saying or hearing a similar statement.

The parties are due back in court Monday for hearings on the motions.

This case has been a disaster, but these kinds of high profile, sexually related crimes often are, with the case becoming so weighed down with conflicting evidence and a "media frenzy", that it convolutes the whole thing. If there is misconduct, and the judge agrees, they will probably retry again, they would consider a plea, but there is a public spotlight and grieving parents. The whole thing is just a debacle.

The DNA under her fingernails had DNA from so many different people, it was impossible to tell if the DNA was from him. The fingerprint on the phone was inconclusive because it was a partial print that couldn't be linked to anyone.

I've never heard anything about pictures of the crime on his phone, just that he admitted to reading about the murder after the fact.

The confession did not match the facts of the crime.

They have this girl on camera all over this park, know exactly when she entered the park and what route she took, but couldn't find one video that placed dude at the scene of the crime.

The sexual assault with absolutely no DNA evidence.

The father leading the cops directly to the body, then contaminating the crime scene, and the cops just let it happen.

The cop who suddenly remembered the black kid walking around the all white neighborhood.

This case is not as open and shut as the media and NYPD are making it. Framing this man is completely believable.

the way technology is these days and 24/7 surveillance electronic documentation of everything posted online etc. what makes these fools think they can get away with a botched framing job in 2019 :mindblown:
literally anything u do or say or post can be and is being scrutinized by people online, for better or worse
