My World & War Games = FIRE. Dangerous W/Big L = FIRE. Big L murdered that shyt. Can’t Go Wrong & The Chosen One = Smooth. M.U.G. W/Freddie Foxxx another Preemo banger. The Crow is such a great record. Wildly underrated.

Hoes be on me like I'm welfare/

Is this Big L year? Hell yeah

:banderas:

Also this is about Word Life and not Jewelz but it never gets brought up how O-Zone was the first rap song to sample Prodigy's voice on a hook...and it was BEFORE Shook Ones Pt 2 dropped. Buckwild sampled a line from Shook Ones Pt. 1. He recognized that greatness before anybody else :wow:

Never put that together:ohhh:

Haven't listened to either album in ages so I can't even recall which one I liked better. They both got spun like crazy.

Jewelz came out New Year’s Day ‘97. That album is ahead of it’s time. Seriously, that album was so rugged yet smooth. Def not a sellout record. My World is one of the very best non Gang Starr records Preemo ever produced :hubie:

Homeboy is right because we got to talk about those dude3s that was pushing that line with R&B is a small part of what happened to rap. Once we rejected R&B the music started going down the tubes.

jewelz is one of the best balanced albums from the golden era.

i hold it in the same class as iww, rd and r2d.

thats not an easy balance to achieve. among others mic g tried w/ vendetta and as skilled as mic g was, he couldnt achieve that balance and preserve quality the same.
i loved vendetta but hated nothing move but the money..shyt had me like what the fukk is this? :camby:

Word...Life is one of Hip Hop's best albums, of all-time. Top 5 DITC project.

Jewelz was dope, but it wasn't as raw. And when it dropped, O was saying that he wanted to "hit the ladies and radio with a little something too", with Jewelz. And O is my dude, but that's clearly saying that you want to go more mainstream, which is the opposite of what he always said he was doing on the first album.

Word...Life is still his best work. That sh*t was a masterpiece.

Man I don't even want to shake heads with someone who views Jewelz as a sellout album. It's a dope album. Far From Yours isn't some shiny suit pop shyt. It's hard drums and r&b...who cares. If Biggie did that no one would say shyt.

I love Word…Life. That album really is one of the better breakthrough albums of the 90’s. Straight boom bap. I don’t think he gets enough credit for Jewelz & his pure ability to expand his sound because it’s one thing to try and make a mainstream album & selling out vs. branching out and creating really dope Hip-Hop that is more versatile & shows growth. It’s not like his first album didn’t already have a track like Ma Dukes. Truth be told, Far From Yours has more replay value than a decent number of tracks on Word…Life.

I liked Jewelz when it dropped, but I honestly only revisit a few tracks on there. Definitely a dope album, but it never held my attention the way Word...Life does. I remember Stretch and Bobbito had the advance copy of the album summer '94, and Stretch would throw on some of the tracks, but only play half of them, and we would lose our minds! Every single track on that was crazy, and when the album dropped, I could listen to it straight from start to finish. It's still the same today. And that's why Buckwild always talks about it and how locked in O was for it.

That's just him at his best. I appreciate Jewelz, and I get what he wanted to do with it, but the first album is just on a whole other level. That was made when so many other classics were dropping left and right, and you didn't even care about radio. So he was creating at a mad organic and raw level on that one. All of the DITC cats and Organized Konfusion spend a lot of time talking about the making of Word...Life. You don’t really see them going on about Jewelz, lol. I'm just saying.

the lead single wasn't even the best song on the album.

I agree. War Games was dope. Dangerous and Stranjay.. How the hell are those forgettable???

It's my world is the only record on there.

As a matter of fact. It was the first release of note on realaudio and hiphopsite.com. which is why I know the album was a complete dud. As the twelve was on streaming mad long and getting props for hophopsite. That when the album dropped every record on there was mid.

Thankfully it was the very 1st track so I can always start the album from track 2 and let it play. Can pretend it doesn't exist I know on my old iPod I took that version off and replaced it with the remix with X and Black Rob felt more in tune with the album than the regular version.
