Yall are so mislead....Please Watch Hidden Color 3. Than get back to me. The first 10 minutes will school you why we aren't at the same place as other minorities.

He's right as fukk. White folks have never been looked at as a monolith and black folks shouldnt be either.

But......They created the terms White and Black (Negro) to......

be looked at as a Monolith...... :snoop:

Yes they do the diffrneces is what white people like to do is seen as good

No they don't you'll never see the average white person get on another white persons case for liking something "black" like hip-hop or old soul jams. Comments sure, but never to the extent where they would question someone's "whiteness"

I saw a black kid TODAY getting shyt from his friends for saying he really liked Soccer and the World Cup was hype. :snoop:

I'm not white either breh. I was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, being told you talk "white" isn't exclusive to black folks.

How was the point missed? If Obama is saying that there are no set characteristics/behaviors that make someone black yet people criticize Iggy for "acting black" (or mocking us) then how is @LA Fisher wrong? :ld:

i think obama is saying black people don't have to act in ways that other races (and even other blacks) stereotype us in order to be "accepted" as black. it doesn't change the fact that those stereotypes do and will still exist. people will still associate certain slang, behaviors, clothing styles, dancing styles, musical styles as invented by black culture and mostly representative of our people.

those stereotypes are popular, attractive and even envied by a large group of society who are enamored with black culture. to them we're "cool" because some of us have this style that's so familiar to us and comes so natural to us that it sets us apart from them in a way they can't replicate in an authentic way. this is where culture vultures like iggy comes into play. she's a white girl from australia or something like that. but if you didn't know it and heard her before you saw her, she could almost pass as a black sounding chick or a white version of nikki minaj. to a lot of people (white, black, latino, asian, etc) they find it interesting and appealing to see a white person replicate our "coolness" in a seemingly authentic manner.

that's where the issue comes in. we know she's not authentic and it's all a charade. even though we can move away from the stereotypes, the fact is some things will still be associated with us. and then you have culture vultures like iggy who appropriate our culture for financial gain and it's a slap in the face, because that's not who she really is and it's not who she would choose to be if she couldn't make money doing it.

There is a such thing as African-American culture, but I do agree with Obama that sometimes the way we define said culture can get a little perverted. We live in an inherently anti-black western civilization that automatically connects all blackness to all (or most) negative concepts and yeah...we could probably do without 'blackness' as a concept all together. Unfortunately people in this culture can't seem to define us without defaming us.

What has he done to help black men?
Other then tell us shyt we already know.

The Stimulus package, healthcare reform, student loan relief, bailed the auto industry out, lowered unemployment, tax relief, prolonged the time you can be on your parents insurance :ufdup:do your research breh he's accomplished a lot more than most in his position but people only go off what they see on tv and what they say on facebook :snoop:

He's 100% right, blackness shouldn't be relegated to hood shyt. I love the NBA & rapper comment too, we need to show our youth that there are many paths to success other than athletics and music.

Disagree breh respectfully:upsetfavre:

You don't associate black with "hood shyt" but black should be associated with social consciousness to a extent, you should love yourself and have a love for your people. What Obama is basically saying is assimilation into CAC culture is natural and disassociating yourself with "blackness" is okay and that's where I respectfully disagree.:manny:
