Huh What does that mean? If you making 9:00 an hour for 40 hour week, that is only 360.00 a week, you get quit, you get nothing, you get fired you get 180 week on unemployment, how is that fat again?

^ okay lets look past price of goods for now because the more important aspect is smallbusiness. Raising things on a federal level makes no sense. New Yorkers may laugh at 9, but the dude running a hardware store in North Dakota just sees a huge dent in likely already low profit margins. This just opens the door for the few big corporations to complete the monopoly, which is NEVER good for the people

16k in NYC is impossible to live on, no matter how much you cut back on, it is impossible Transportation alone is 1170, and lets say you have a roommate and you split the rent say for 1100 a month and you pay 550 which adds up to 6600 + 1170 and you almost spent half on rent and transportation i did this in the 90's when i lived in Astoria and i had to take a 2nd job or i would have starved to death, and this was me having no life at all, i worked 200 days in a row at 1 point to pay bills, rent, clothes and medical and other expenses, maybe in the south , you can survive on that amount but not here, anymore.

bruh.. if you make 9 dollars an hr and get fired.. your unemployment aint goin be what u made doggy.. MAX here in fl is 550 every 2 weeks.. and thats after being employed for like 6 months and them benefits are based on how much "credit" you have in the system..

A bunch of smart dumb people wanting to stay broke, but think like they are a business owner. How the fukk is this not a win for the middle/low class. When 90% people on here fit that category. Like liquid said this should have been done years ago.

This is not a win because of the simple law of supply and demand. As labor cost rise (employee wages) the amount a supplier/producer pays for the the cost of production increases all together and to maintain a profit margin, they will adjust as needed. This includes reducing the amount of employees they hire and possibly laying off current ones. This isn't rocket science.

For the record, minimum wage hikes have not resulted in increased hardship for the working class. it has raised the standard of living for millions. another raise will bear out the same results.

I cant believe these cats in here defending the rich people. They brought all this upon themselves when they decided to hoard all the money for themselves and keep wages stagnant for the last 40 years. This country has the one of the largest income inequality gaps in the modern world yet there is no shortage of people defending the rich.

None of these clowns still addressed the point about 96/97 wage increase or the larger minimum increase in the 50s had no effect on the economy and unemployment still decreased and the economy still was in a boom.

Still...NOBODY can have a rational answer to this fact I made because there is none. They are just jumping on the bandwagon repeating the same thing they heard their 8th grade teacher say years and years ago and have been regurgitating this every chance they get on any discussion on minimum wage whether on HuffingtonPost or WashingtonPost.

Because my individual decrease in pay will not have an effect on the overall economy. However, forcing EVERY business nationally to pay a minimum wage of $9 will.

So raising the min wage to $9 is still not a good idea.
