I dont have a problem with paying for those things if they make society better. Scandinavian countries have extensive public programs and are also very happy places to live (despite being cold as fukk)- IMO the two things are highly related.
Americans love to puff their chests and pretend like we are all individuals on little islands but really we all benefit from help. If you are making regular money, yea you pay taxes but for the most part all the public shyt you use- roads, airports, police, whatever- are subsidized by people with way more money than you as rich people pay the lion's share of taxes. Unless you went to private school someone bankrolled that for you too. So the idea that a society that helps lift its people up through collectivism is a bad thing is ridiculous. There are plenty of real life examples of it working.
The key is for things to be rational and accountable. Id rather have a 50% tax rate and extensive public programs with a govt that actually represents the interests of its people, than be paying the 40% or w/e Im paying now in total and live under a cronyist regime touting bootstrap propaganda. Wake up![]()
^^^yeah just not going to agree with paying for things for people that are perfectly capable of doing it on their own...sorry.
Everyone in society is shifting to the mindset of wanting it all for no cost....it's a shame. Makes me worry for my son's generation...
