Sanders economic stances are more the driver than his talks about universal healthcare. His talk about making college affordable, reigning in Wall Street, etc. are the main points bringing people in. Healthcare is not the main issue despite his support for it. The thing is, all the same factors that made it impossible in 09, are there right now. Scratch that--they're worse. Sanders would walk in with a Republican House of Representatives and a Democratic Senate--many of whom are owned by lobbyists from the health insurance industry. We're 5 to 7 years away from universal health care being feasible. I say that as that is the time table in which the districts will be redrawn.

At the moment it seems unlikely, but all that's really needed is to repeal the filibuster and reclaim the house and it's very possible imo.

Obamacare isn't a good system.

Nope not at all

True. I been on it & have been paying every month. I was cool when I went for my check ups but when I went for my hand all I could do was worry about the bill when the time came. It arrived like last week, insurance only covered $50 of my adventure in urgent care. That's like a 10th of what I still owe.

That said, if it weren't for the Affordable Care Act things could be way worst. :manny:

Don't bet on 2020 redistricting, Republicans own 33 state houses and 31 governorships.

Did you say this 5 to 7 years after obamacare was passed or nah?

Either way I don't believe that timetable for 'Merica. More like 20-30 years, if that.

As it turns out, the non-profit co-op model for health insurance turns out to be unsustainable without government subsidies. More than half of the co-ops have been shut down this year, and nine of the 12 have shut down since October 1, either by HHS or by the states in which they operate. Over a billion dollars in loans and and backstop payments have been lost. The latest failure to be announced was in Michigan, where Consumers Mutual Insurance announced Tuesday that it would not sell insurance for 2016. The failure of these dozen co-ops has left nearly 750,000 consumers in the cold, looking for a plan from a traditional insurer at a higher price.

What happened? Predictably, the financial model that critics warned would lead to a death spiral for insurers hit the co-ops first. “They were low-cost alternatives,” Kaiser Health’s Mary Agnes Carey told PBS anchor Judy Woodruff. “If they were the lower price point, that tended to attract sicker beneficiaries. That would drive up their costs.”

Collapsing Obamacare Co-ops Signal Big Trouble to Come

Expanding Medicaid is the best part about Obamacare. Almost makes you think covering everyone under a state ran system would be a far better system than our current or previous ones.

Tax hikes are needed

And who do you think will be disproportionately harmed...

Can someone break it down for me? Why is the government forcing me to have health insurance? If I don't want it or want to pay for it why do they force me to do it? If I don't pay the fine what happens? Do they steal my things or lock me up? I get why kids are forced to go to school but in that case the government offers everyone a free option. Right now I have to pay an insurance company.

Why do you have to have auto insurance? Why do you have to have a license and pay to keep your car registered?

Yes you will be fined come tax time. You will pay it or you will go to jail. They will just take you tax money. So you will pay it one way or another

Edit: im guessing they would take it even further by garnashing your wages at some point.

I like the sentiment but totally disagree with the timetable.
The re-drawing of districts to get a progressive enough Congress is not 5, 7, 10 or even 20 years down line.
Honestly with the way things are in this country I don't see us having the government in place for a true universal healthcare system for a very long time.

But If I choose to not own a car then I am no longer on the hook for car insurance.
Under Obamacare, by virtue of my existence I am required by law to buy private health insurance which is my biggest problem with the whole thing.
