Why people on here acting like all he is gonna endorse are cleats? Pretend like OBJ won't be in commercials and billboards endorsing any and everything nike related. You're getting one of the most popular football players in the world, guarantee he will be on every nike commercial for the next 5yrs.

Nike definitely got the better end of this deal, I'm sure OBJ has a great team behind him and they looked at every number possible and maybe the 5 mil a yr is the right amount
He's getting paid more money to wear equipment he's already wearing. :gucci:

Its some players that are transcendent, and he's 1. Deion wore cleats. Vick wore cleats. OBJ can be the Steph of football. And he's in NY :mindblown:

Who the fukk gonna rock cleats in a club...

NFL is where athletic motherfukkers go when they are too short to play basketball and didn't play baseball until middle school...

Haha you're right.

They also don't play football all over the world.

BBB wasn't created to make money tho, Lavar told you smart dumb nikkas this weeks ago. He's sold maybe 500 pairs of shoes so that he could leave millions on the table to create a shoe brand he's described as a "family project". But he's a "genius" to y'all nikkas :mjlol:
What kind of endorsement deal do u think Lonzo would have got?

How many rookies over the last 15 years got a significant deal?

Is Lonzo even In the national spotlight without his dad?

Lonzo was a top talent with out his dad. The reason he got extra (negative) attention is because of his dad. He is still a solid player.

He wouldn't have got a major deal but he would have made millions off it. The question is it worth Lonzo to get millions or is it worth it for the family to have a business so they can hire others? I think it's a legit gamble to take.

It's not a gamble tho. Not every top pick get endorsement deals in the millions. Dude got a ugly jumper & my avi thinks he is not attractive. On top of him not really having a great personality. I'm almost certain Lonzo would fall in this category if it wasn't for his dad

The cash deal
This is where the majority of the league falls. As you can imagine, there's a wide variety in the range of cash given to players. Typically, a rookie will sign a shoe deal with a brand that'll last three or four years. When that rookie shoe deal is up, the brands will most often hold a “match clause.” Much like the NBA's restricted free agency, brands can match any new offer sheet a player agrees to.

While NBA contracts normally run through July 1, the shoe deal end date is often Sept. 30, just before the start of preseason. As a protective measure, brands will often wait until after the draft to sign a player, allowing them to see if a player is landing in a small or large market and get a glimpse at how a player performs in the NBA's summer league. They'll then make an offer accordingly.

The current shoe deal range for a marketable lottery pick can be anywhere from $200,000 to $700,000, with exceptions every so often for what brands consider to be “can't-miss” endorsement stars. The most recent star rookie to enter the league, Andrew Wiggins, agreed to a five-year, $11 million deal with adidas, with a commitment to be one of the key headliners of the Crazy Light franchise right from the jump.

Within those deals, you'll find an array of clauses and performance bonuses that reward a player's on-court contributions. A player might get a simple $25,000 bonus for making the All-Star Weekend's Rising Stars game, and then another bonus of the same amount for making the All-Rookie team.

I think that's a legit argument but top picks do tend to get endorsement deals. Even Julius Randle has an endorsement deal. Part of what blew them up wasn't the dad so much as social media, really.

Right but it was basically known about 25 games into the season the Lakers were going to end up with enough ping poing balls to get a top 3 pick. The second biggest (and super thirsty for a basketball player) market in the country for Nike and Adidas.

I really can't believe football players' merch is that nonmarketable. I guess even the biggest personas like a Victor Cruz either fall off before their shoe can make it or just don't have the right fashion taste. I don't know why Nike didn't throw the book at Cam from the jump. I guess he wasn't on the superb fashion shyt coming out of college though

nothing wrong with him doing this at all or endorsements period.. everybody doesnt have the entrepreneurial spirit or have it in them to take on a high risk higher reward situation such as owning your own company rather than endorsing a major clothing company for guaranteed millions so everybody shouldnt take the lonzo route

but at the same time dont shyt on big baller brand for going their route while praising somebody for taking the safe route
Exactly. These c00ns like the OP are so sleep they don't even realize it.

I'm not shytting on BBB for taking their own route. If they are all about shoes and apparel and want to have a company that sells it, that's fine. Good for them.

I am more critical of the idea that this is a smart move that all athletes should be doing.
No one ever said "ALL" athletes need to do anything. This is only something the c00ns and detractors love to repeat to prove their point.
