I was having a political discussion with my classmates and one of them (a millennial, 29 year old, liberal white woman) said Mayor Pete is her favorite because he’s the smartest. This girl is one of the smartest people in our class so I was legit speechless.
People are obsessed with the idea of meritocracy and Pete projects “intelligence.” In other words, people like the truths they subscribe to reflected in our politics. They forget that it starts with morals because you can be smart and morally bankrupt.
