fukk out of here. How do y'all fix your fingers to argue that the onus is on Bernie stans after admitting that you're grandfather is an actual conspiracy theorist.

How is it that Bernie supporters are always held responsible for the biases held by other people?

How did you even get that from my post? :what:

This is what I mean about Bernie supporters being overly defensive and confrontational. All I did was state what his opinion was on Bernie last time it was brought up and point out that Bernie needs to increase his appeal to voters like that (ie. older black voters that have been voting Dem long before most of us were born).

We are in this fukking mess because of her. She needs to go the fukk away
Such a lazy ass candidate.
No effort went into campaigning in states that really matter, states that she knew she needed. Bernie did more campaigning in the states for her than she did, but now it's all on him that her campaign was WOAT.

Fam, you and I are a specific type of person. The onus is on us because we are the ones trying to change the way things work and build up a movement and coalition. It’s like with any social issue - those more invested always have more facts on hand. The people you need are almost necessarily more ignorant on the issues than you are and hold some unfounded belief that you have to make way for. It’s what I have learned.

my parents are the direct opposite of breh a few posts back. they never liked hillary, dad voted for bernie in 16, still likes bernie but just feels he's too old and comes off grumpy/disheveled, he likes yang but knows he has no shot and likes warren, but worries about her gender...all boomers aint the death of the world. my parents and uncles and older family members are boomers, i'm not hurrying them into the grave because i don't agree with that generation's collective politics...this online war between millennials and boomers is corny

I'm being direct because y'all don't want to hold people accountable and are afraid of having tough conversations with people you like/love.

The statement "Bernie hurt Hillary's chances in the general" is a conspiracy theory. It's not a matter of opinion. MacDonald's is better than Burger King is an opinion.

Is there statistical evidence being provided by your grandfather? Is there any quantitative data being provided by your grandfather? No? It's just a feeling he has? So tell me how you guys have any right to be upset at Trump supporters who feel he's turning the country around without providing any credible evidence.....

It's amazing how much judgement you guys are willing to pass on republican voters who have the same exact train of thought as the democrats in your life.

Just be honest. You don't have the heart to tell your grandfather he's wrong, and because of that he's going to continue using a weak political analysis when judging candidates. You guys set your own people up for failure then leave the rest of us to clean up your mess. At first I was going to blame MSNBC, but if you're not willing to combat conspiracy theories on the spot then you should be held accountable too.

most people aren't arguing down others in their lives over politics (religion as well). if that's what you do in your life, cool, but that's not common, especially with someone who has a place a reverence in your life.

I know. I have no problem with this. Everyone starts somewhere. I'm just amazed at how many people are willing to hold voters unaccountable in their own growth process.

Every Hillary -> Biden, Pete, Amy, Warren supporter holds themselves in such high self esteem as some reachable voter. Like, yo if you don't believe health care is a right for all, you are by definition unreachable. If you don't care about drone strikes, you are unreachable.

Your response to my post would be entirely different if this was specifically a race or gender related topic.

That's fine. But's that because you personally don't feel that topic at hand requires badgering. Which again is fine.

But then be willing to accept that same thing from white people who don't go John Brown in the face of their family racism. Accept the same from men who are quite when other men say they're not willing to vote for or work under a woman.

Everyone has that "don't preach to me" breaking point. I get it. And I also get some of my posts come of belligerent as fukk. But the real outreach and political education happens at home among family and friends. I spent all last year trying to explain polling to my Aunt because she watches Joy Reid. It's Joy's fault for being a fukkn terrible host, but it's my job to combat her BS.

i do accept that, it's the reason i accept that racism, sexism and crazy right wingers will live on. i don't expect woke jack who went to college in denver and lives in SF to go home to tennessee and try to change uncle jethro's mind. i hope that through larger conversations in the media, community events, connecting to someone from another walk of life, etc maybe jethro will learn something new, but i don't place it on jack to be the one to belabor the point. they can share differences of opinion, accept the impasse and move on.

back in the day when my parents voted down gay marriage, we had an impasse...i explained why i don't see it as an issue, but i understand their old religious values limit their acceptance of it. i wasn't going to attack or questions them the same way i might some random person online

fukk boomers, there I said it

These old cacs been putting on shytty candidates for years, the latest of which is trump. They're the hardest demographic to pry from his tiny orange hands. They're the reason Bootyjudge is a thing.

They dont care about student loan debt, climate change or the environment, they might as well be republicans. fukk em

The path to progressive victory goes through the youth.

Straight up yelling at someone and telling them they're wrong is a terrible way to convert them over to your side. It might give you an endorphin rush or get some likes and retweets, but this whole style of all stick no carrot is caused by social media reinforcement bubbles and leads to heavy polarization.

I am not saying ALL boomers are bad. It isn't my intention to demonize them. If I thought that way I wouldn't be a supporter of Bernie Sanders lol.
My mom and dad are boomers and I love them both.

However, that doesn't negate the fact that baby boomers as a collective failed to address some of the existential issues we face today and will leave us a world that is radically more unstable. They were young adults in an era where the future was generally viewed with optimism. They were blinded with the illusion that neo-liberalism could solve the worlds problems. And now we have an unprecedented ecological collapse unfolding before our eyes. The world is literally heating up with each passing decade due to our dependency on fossil fuels. We have a military industrial complex that is completely out of control. We are seeing the rise of right wing fascism all across the globe. Wealth inequality is dangerously high. Nuclear confrontation is the highest its ever been since the Cold War.
These are just some of the issues of our generation. So I feel, as do many others that baby boomers are in no position to keep us from making progress. They need to either get out of the way or help us rebuild the world they trashed. Their maintenance of the status quo and philosophy of making small incremental changes are outdated. That simply isn't going to work in the new world.
