Why are hockey players more loyal to their franchises than basketball players?

It seems like the number of players that spend their whole career with one team, or even what I would call "virtually their whole career" (think like Patrick Marleau) with one franchise is substantially higher in hockey than basketball. I wonder to what extent shorter contracts play a role in...

I’m in Nashville, so I went to the Preds game tonight. I’m shocked at how much their tickets cost. The only place I’ve paid more, so far this season is Toronto. I wouldn’t expect Nashville to support hockey like that.
