I think Holmes and Campbell are hand-in-hand on most things. Holmes is the one still scoffing at the idea of being aggressive this offseason. He wants players that fit a certain mold as well. I'm sure that also applies to coaches. If Holmes really wanted McDaniel, he'd be the OC.

Again there is zero indication this is true, and given that Campbell picks his staff why would you believe this? McDaniel clearly wanted to return to the west coast. It is what it is. I'd argue he clearly turned down three better options (Tampa, Philly, Detroit). That being said the Chargers make sense assuming their tackles don't have long term health issues.

Because Holmes is the GM and outranks Campbell.

What GM is making coaching staff decisions over the head coach's head? Name one. Even when Sirianni was on the hot seat and given an ultimatum he still was the guy who pulled the trigger on hiring Fangio and Moore. The idea that Campbell wanted somebody and Holmes said no is laughable. And it's solely based on people misreading a tweet.

McDaniel ended up with one of the worse OC positions open right now. I don't see how anyone can read anything into that besides that he went where he wanted to go.

Anyone but McDaniels was going to be panned by fans. Ironically Cardinals had a better offense than Dolphins last two years. Mcdaniels turned down better jobs in Philly and TB to go back to Cali

This guy aligns with what campbell want to do. Get back to running the ball, play action

Highly doubt Holmes is telling Campbell who to hire to his staff

I dont think philly is a better option for an oc.

dealing with that offense and guys like AJ brown is a headache for an OC, and there are limitations what you can do in that offense

Dont see how this means McDaniel wasnt it.
He’s so not committed to them he accepted their position and he’s still interviewing for head coaching positions after the fact. I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t want him on my staff. I get he wants to be a head coach but if you agree to terms let that be it at least for the next season.

Imagine what the narrative here and on Detroit radio would be if McDaniel was hired as the Lions OC and immediately went back to interviewing for head coaching jobs. People would be shytting on Campbell for hiring somebody who didn't want to be here, there would be dumb "with us or against us/Detroit v Everybody" nonsense, etc.

Even funnier to me is that the loudest online Lions fans hated that shotgun call against the Commanders so much yet now wanted to hire an OC who regularly has his QBs in shotgun. I like McDaniel but I think a lot of people just gravitated to a name and that's it. Same people who demanded we trade for Riq Woolen, wanted us to sign Trevon Diggs after he got cut (btw GB just released him again). It's all about names people are familiar with.

Any OC in that position would take the HC interview. This is why it means nothing, especially in regard to if it wouldve "worked" with the lions or not.
Flores just signed an extension while still entertaining HC interviews.
It's reported if Daboll doesnt get the Bills HC job he is the titans OC.

How many notable figures in the NFL accept a coach position and before even starting it they're backing out and taking a different one? If the Bills offer him that job he's gone and he hasn't even started yet. That doesn't compare to a job you have been in actively and you interview for an upgrade. One is a given and is the nature of the league and the other isn't.

So picking between opportunities when you haven't accepted one of them is the same as agreeing to take a job then right after before you've even started interviewing for different jobs?

It's absolutely right that if they hired him and a week later he accepted the Bills HC position leadership would be questioned even more than they are now. They made a good choice to pass.
